Hiya, I'm new here. But I'm quite at a loss. I've been through some pretty rough shit afew years ago now and thought I had dealt with it in my own way without medication or counselling. Something happened recently though that has taken me back in my head to them few years ago and I've been struggling greatly. This week I bit the bullet and rang my doctor and explained the situation. He has prescribed me diazepam and sertraline. I'm concerned about taking the diazepam as I have read it's addictive and I already have a very addictive personality. Was just wondering if anybody else has taken this and did it help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nicola x

Hi
Diazepam is great. I only take 2mg as and when I need it. Calms the panic and anxiety within ten minutes. They are fantastic- only med I can take with no side effects

I'm the same, have been prescribed sertraline and 2mg tablets of diazepam. The sertraline doesn't appear to be doing much for me 4 weeks in and at first I would agree with Funnyfishface, they were great to take the edge off however I am starting to take more and more to get that 'edge off' feeling as my anxiety has been worse recently. Back to the GP to discuss options as my GP is very reluctant to prescribe it so be careful.

I don't have any experience of actually taking it but have seen enough people become addicted very quickly to suggest that you recontact your GP to discuss this if you have concerns, especially if you feel that you have an addictive personality. If you do decide to go ahead - please please stick religiously to the prescribed amounts/guidelines. I believe its one that your body can become used to quite quickly so people increase the dose themselves as not feeling the effects anymore and as on a low dose think its safe but its a horrible withdrawal process to go through if you stop suddenly.

My doctor has only given me 42 tablets why the sertraline has time to kick in. I'm just worried about how I will feel when I don't have any diazepam left as they do make me feel calm and relaxed. Since taking them my heart doesn't flutter in my chest with anxiety like it has been doing. Everything seems to feel like a catch 22 x
