If so, what kind of therapy did you find useful?

Thanks for sharing your experience CleanAndLight

I hope you won't mind me asking a few questions. How long have you been in therapy? Is it possible for you to mention your therapist name? If not, can you mention his qualifications and modes of therapies he specialised in - CBT, CAT, dbt, EMDR, psychodynamic etc.?
My apologies in advance if I asked for too much.

I am looking for a private therapist. But I found this process so difficult. I had gone to a very experienced clinical psychologist. She used CBT with ACT but she had a very textbook approach.
Personally I don't like cbt unless it's for anxiety.

I think I have some attachment issues - emotional reactions similar to those with bpd but I don't think I have full-on bpd. I had a very difficult and neglectful childhood and my family is still very critical / invalidating though they think they are the most loving people.
My therapist reminded me of my dismissive family. She wanted to counter everything I said. I tried to give feedback but she became defensive.

I was told c-ptsd changes brain and it's better to go to a clinical psychologist.

I have not found a clinical psychologist who is warm and compassionate and uses multiple modes of therapies. Most psychologists have written their profiles like they are making a sales pitch. Or they are so focused on what the approach they believe in that they don't want to be flexible.

I'm about to start a years therapy (with a trauma counsellor not a psychologist).

Im anxious about it as Ive had cou nselling before and reallky really hope it will help and I wont be left feeli ng it was a bit pointless.

I could talk for britain so need someone who will actually be able to offer insight and direction. Many just reflect back what youve said.

We're low income. In this and so many other fitness related areas I wish we were better off.

CleanandLight thank you so much for you post and details of your therapist.
I am sorry I didn't reply. I have been very depressed in last 2 days. dh and I had a fight a few days ago, he was insensitive about my depression and past. My head is going in circles about everything.
Your posts are very helpful. It gives me hope. I haven't found any therapist. Yours seems very good. I forgot to ask your location. I am in London and he is not registered with bupa. So I can't go with him. Also, I am only allowed 6 or 7 sessions until renewal of therapy, which is 4 months away.
How did you get diagnosis of c-ptsd?
I am told by bupa mental health specialist that since I have c-pstd, I should see a clinical psychologist. But I am thinking of going with a counsellor as their fees is lower and I can get 9-10 sessions with a counsellor through insurance.

Did you have a session yet KneelandKneel? Where are you located?

Yes. Some fancy cbt. No worksheets!

KneelJustKneel · 17/04/2019 21:32

South coast - it's a trauma charity so sliding scale. Got to wait for a specific day to come up though!
