Thanks for sharing your experience CleanAndLight
I hope you won't mind me asking a few questions. How long have you been in therapy? Is it possible for you to mention your therapist name? If not, can you mention his qualifications and modes of therapies he specialised in - CBT, CAT, dbt, EMDR, psychodynamic etc.?
My apologies in advance if I asked for too much.
I am looking for a private therapist. But I found this process so difficult. I had gone to a very experienced clinical psychologist. She used CBT with ACT but she had a very textbook approach.
Personally I don't like cbt unless it's for anxiety.
I think I have some attachment issues - emotional reactions similar to those with bpd but I don't think I have full-on bpd. I had a very difficult and neglectful childhood and my family is still very critical / invalidating though they think they are the most loving people.
My therapist reminded me of my dismissive family. She wanted to counter everything I said. I tried to give feedback but she became defensive.
I was told c-ptsd changes brain and it's better to go to a clinical psychologist.
I have not found a clinical psychologist who is warm and compassionate and uses multiple modes of therapies. Most psychologists have written their profiles like they are making a sales pitch. Or they are so focused on what the approach they believe in that they don't want to be flexible.
