Coming off antidepressants after being on them a long time?

I was just wondering if anyone has come off antidepressants after being on them 10+ years and/or since being a teen and if so, how did it go?

I've been on antidepressants since 12 and I'm 29 now. I don't know how likely it will be for me to come off completely. I have tried in the past but the first time was too quick and the second coincided with some bad events.

I'm just wondering if it is possible or if my brain will never get used to producing the chemicals it should in the right way, as I was taking them on a developing brain.

Thank you.

Is this a decision you've made yourself OP, and has not been recommended by a doctor?

At this time myself, but Doctor has mentioned it previously.

You can only give it another go, but I’d only do it if I thought I was absolutely fine now.

What you taking and what mg and how long on that particular med

@granadagirl

I am not going off it straight away going to go a month, maybe 2 on each dose.

Have been on between 50 and 200mg of Sertraline. Currently down to 100 from 150 a month ago.

Going to go a month more on 100 and then go down to 50,. Think will likely stay on that dose for a fair few months before attempting 25mg/none.

I feel a lot more 'normal' now I'm on a lower dose. Felt emotions were dulled a lot.

Was on Prozac from 12-14, something else can't remember name from 14-17 and Sertraline from 18 until now so 11 years.

I just hate the idea of relying on a chemical to keep my mood level that dulls my emotions.

Thanks for responding.
