Anyone on it or been on it? What were your experiences and did anyone manage to come off it?

I was on it from 19 until I was in mid 30's. It pulled me out of a very dark place with my depression and PTSD.
Took 6 weeks to work.
Looking back it made me quite manic and took a long while to withdrawal from the drug.

I'm 42 now so I've not been on it for a long time and I wouldn't go back on it again as there are newer SSRI's with less side effects and withdrawal symptoms.

Thank you for your reply. I’m 38 now and have been on it since I was 12. They initially put me on it for social anxiety ans depression. I never wanted to take it but was made to by my dad. I’ve tried and failed countless times to come off it and have recently moved so am registered with a new GP. She’s said I need to come off it completely before being put on a different antidepressant. I have quite bad depression, anxiety and panic disorder, borderline personality disorder and very low self esteem so I feel I do need to be on something, but I feel Seroxat has caused me more problems then it has solved. I’m no way down to 10mg and I don’t take it every day, dr has been weaning me off over the last few years. I started taking it every other day, then leaving 2days and now I leave 3 days in between. I’m actually supposed to take it today but I haven’t. I’m going to make another attempt to come off it cold turkey, although I am 98 % sure I will fail again and have to go back on it. Have had a few people say that I will never be able to fully come off it. I get impulsive when I reduce or stop it, I get moody, irritable, impatient, no motivation, very tearful and very angry and even suicidal. I’m quite a short tempered person, which I never used to be before I was on Seroxat

I meant I’m now down to 10mg

I hear you.

I used to be on 20mg. I tried and tried to withdrawal by going 10mg one and 10mg the next and so forth but I had head zaps and dizziness and lurching dark moods.

I did a bit of research and found out that GP's can prescribe liquid form Seroxat/Paxil and went back to my GP and requested I tried to withdrawal with the liquid and by 1ml at a time for week and then down another 1ml if I felt ok.

It worked but it took me about 8 months to complete the withdrawal and even then I had head zaps for at least another few months.

I wouldn't go cold turkey, have a look online for a seroxat withdrawal plan and using the liquid to do so.

*10mg one day, then none the next and 10mg the next day

I know exactly what you mean, I get the head zaps and dizziness and my mood goes so low and I become the worst I’ve ever been. I feel sorry for the people around me when I’m like that. Thank you, I read about the liquid form, I’m going to ask my GP if she can give me that instead of the tablets. Thank you for your replies x

You are welcome.

Stay strong, you can do it! I never thought I'd get off the stuff but I'm 7 years 'clean'.

Just go slow and take each day as it comes.

LHMB · 25/02/2019 16:48

Thank you, that gives me hope. I appreciate your advice 🙂 x

You're better to lower the dose rather than skipping days. Break up tablets if you have to.

LHMB · 26/02/2019 13:45

Thanks for your reply, I last had one on Thursday. Was meant to take one yesterday but I didn’t, as I predicted I’ve had to take it this morning as I’m getting suicidal urges after only 4 days without it. I’ll see the GP about the liquid version
