Hi
Looking for advice .
My daughter is 15 and will be doing her GCSEs this summer . Today she was in a state - had anxiety attack in maths and then during Physics had to leave the class. I've honestly been a little bit "pull yourself together" on this as i've always felt the girls are feeding this anxiety thing onto each other. However there are parts of her life which i find a unusual such as her resentment towards her younger sister...this above and beyond normal sibling bickering and i really feel their relationship is beyond repair which i find so sad as i got and and still get on with my older brothers. She is in other ways the typical teenager , pretty rude to us parents , tells lies so as not to lose face (very big into finding something else to blame rather than take any responsibility) . However, she has lovely group of friends and the school teachers have always loved her (even though they know she could knuckle down a bit more with her revision so that she can do herself justice) so this is good. She is honestly so challenging at home , but not off the rails so to speak thankfully . So who do we go and see , I really think she needs some help - pyscotherapist/ counsellor/ psychologist and how do i find recommendations ?? I'm all at sea here and happy to go private (though slightly shocked at the hourly rates !!) . I've looked up all sorts of people but don't just want to pick anyone at random!!
thanks

I would say psychiatrist first and they advise you where to go from there.

If you are South England I can recommend a psychiatrist. Otherwise your GP should be able to recommend someone. Not many therapists will see a 15 yo, but you could look at the BACP website and see if there are any therapists in your area will see children. It may help to set realistic goals for GCSEs, and also have lots of alternative options for post-GCSE (e.g. if you get X grades you could do this, if you get Y grades you could do this etc)
