Physical Anxiety symptoms becoming too much - should I see doctor?

I have suffered badly with physical symptoms of anxiety now for a few years - racing heart, whole body feeling tense and constantly on alert, NEVER feeling relaxed. This developed a few years ago during a short-lived period of stress, but even though things are going well in my life now it's like my body has just got used to being like this. I'm unsure whether to say it to the doctor but fed up feeling like this.

Sorry to hear you feel like this. I think telling your GP would be a great place to start... that is what they are there for. And if you don't feel they are supportive enough then try another one until you get the help you need. good luck!

Yes, see a doctor. You sound just like me. I’ve just started medication again. I took it for a year before and came off as I thought I would be fine. I was wrong. It’s started all over again. Good luck and I hope you get some help very soon. It’s difficult to deal with it alone.

Can I ask what medication you were prescribed? I feel like it's my only option as talking therapy won't work as everything is okay in my life and I don't understand why my body has remained like this.

Worth chatting to the doc about your options as there could be something going on inside that you're not even aware of. Have you tried exercise & relaxation etc... ?

Most definitely go to the medic. It's utterly awful and exhausting. I am not a medic, but clearly there are a variety of pharmaceuticals that may well help, allow you to regroup so to speak. A beta blocker would slow your heart down and has a very rapid effect. For some it also has an actual anxiolytic effect, reduce positive feedback perhaps. Best of luck, genuinely.

I take sertraline, just started it again after being off it for several months. I feel a lot better on it, but medications work differently on everyone.

It might be that you could benefit from a beta blocker, benzodiazepines or ADs. Go see the GP x

I feel like this much of the time too, you have my sympathies. One of my parents has been diagnied with a serious health condition recently, so I was given Citilopram, but I haven’t started taking them yet.

Same here, though I have ongoing reasons for my anxiety - but it’s the physical symptoms that bother me the most. Going to the GP in half an hour to talk it through.

Yeh. I'm like that. Maybe have your thyroid checked too, that can cause these issues too, I've just found out I'm hyperthyroid.

I take propanalol and it’s changed my life. Having been on anti depressants on and off for ten years I wanted to avoid that route so started counselling and taking the propanalol for the physical symptoms of anxiety. The relief was almost instant.

So I went to the doc this morning about this and a different physical issue. She took bloods and wants to see what they show up before putting me on anything. My blood pressure was normal but my heart rate was 86 per minute which she says is high.

So I got my blood results. The doctor said my vitamin D is extremely low, she said it's "in your boots", so I'm on high dose prescription-only vitamin d for two months. She thinks this may help me feel better and so will hold off prescribing anything else for the minute. I can't understand this as I spend a lot of time outdoors.

Anyone else have something similar?

@Petals23 I've been taking Vit D supplement for a few times after hearing a lighting Professor peaking about how something like over 80% of the UK population are vitamin D deficient because there simply isn't enough daylights during winter & you need to have quite large areas of skin exposed to absorb enough of it. The reason I took it was because I was constantly feeling tired & I hoped it would make getting up in the dark less traumatic - apparently it can help with tiredness too! I definitely struggle less with that now (though still not easy!). My DM has low levels & takes a supplement, as does my DH. Hope it helps!
