Anyone switched from citalopram to escitalopram?

I was on citalopram for a month but it made me incredibly tired and I was still feeling a bit nauseous even after 4 weeks so I've been switched on to escitalopram. I was hoping I wouldn't have side effects because it's similar, but I feel nauseous.

Has anyone had experience of switching and was it better?

The tiredness has made me incapable of getting things done so isn't helping me resolve my problems at all. I don't know if I would be better switching again or on nothing. I've got through difficult periods previously without medication and I'm wondering if I should have persevered this time too.

Yes I swapped. The swap went well although there was almost a couple of days of cold turkey when I felt quite vulnerable.
I settled on escitalopram well (still on it now) and it worked well.

I'm glad it worked for you delila. I'll keep on with the pack I've got and hope I improve.

Hi there - I'm on citalopram, and it makes me quite sleepy. Can you tell me more about escitalopram? What is it?

Unsurprisinglysurprising · 10/01/2019 10:35

It's related to citalopram in its chemistry. Some science stuff I can't explain! You take half as much in a dose and it's supposed to be better in terms of side effects. I think it's slightly more expensive so that's probably why I went on citalopram first. I was so, so tired. I was unable to stay awake and taking naps for an hour or more during the day so it was causing havoc tbh.

Thanks - I'll ask my GP about it!

I'm not getting on with the escitalopram at all. I didn't think I would have had side effects from switching but am feeling as ill as I did in the first week of citalopram. I feel like I'm losing days to feeling quite incapacitated by nausea and tiredness.

I did the switch from citalopram to Escitalopram. The first 3 weeks were similar with nausea etc but it settled. I’ve found it more tolerable side effects wise over citalopram

I had it as my friend swore by it. I didn't have any side effects but put on 4 stone. So I swapped to sertraline.

I read a lot about it during the switch a lot of people report it to be a slow starter and that has been true for me. It takes 6-8 weeks for it to kick it so to speak. Then the fatigue lifts. It’s the same when I change doses. Give it time if you can
