Anxiety and stomach issues

My DH has asked me to post as he's cynical about what the gp can/will do.

He has had anxiety on and off for years. He has had physical trauma (head injury) in the past which left him in a coma (long before we met). He has tried medication and cbt and even a psych and he says none of it works.

We've had a difficult year financially, but nothing critical. We got married and we are now expecting a new baby. He is self employed and understandably crapping it about money. I will get full maternity pay this time so it's not that bad.

His anxiety is manifesting itself as accute stomach pains. He has had medication for his ulcer before but found rennies more effective!

I'm looking for other experiences of similar and advice as to what to try next! New baby arrives in May. I'd like to think we could have it under control by then 😬

An psychiatrist cant really help if the problems are the result of a brain injury, he needs to see a neuropsychiatrist (I think).

Does his brain injury cause him other problems?

Oh, and there a couple of different medications for acid that his gp can prescribe, has he tried many? It’s worth him going back and exploring the others if he hasn’t.

Ok thanks @FissionChips

I'm not aware that he has seen a neuropsychologist ever. It is certainly worth pursuing. His injury was the result of a random attack. No motive other than theft. He was left for dead and luckily found. This would have been about 15 years ago I think.

I believe he has tried one medication for his ulcer. I can't remember the name. Something beginning with 'E'?

He can certainly ask for something else.

You might find Headway (the brain injury charity) helpful in providing some guidance. A lot of GP’s are ignorant when it comes to brain injuries, they tend to think it’s all mental illness or substance abuse.
