Does anyone have auditory and visual hallucinations?

I have been on meds for general anxiety and depression for 12 years.

Not been diagnosed with anything but I know I have a lot more going on.

Lately I've been hearing things. Someone saying my dogs name in the middle of the night. A lady saying 'hello?' When no one else is around.

I have the intrusive thoughts inside my head but these are most definitely presenting as an external voice.

Also I see spiders on the walls. At night. Both when I close my eyes and open them. I know they aren't real but I just watch them. A few times they've scared me thinking they are real but I see they aren't.

Anyone have similar and do you have a diagnosis for something?

Thankyou.

I have seen spiders at night but usually when I’m waking from really bad dreams and trying to wake up but can’t. I have seen things when awake when I was under a lot of pressure but only that time. Are you under a lot of stress al, more than usual?

Ironmanrocks · 29/11/2018 22:32

Night terrors produce this kind of hallucination. A friend of mine would be still dreaming and are technically awake - but they can't move. So seeing strange things (some scary) but not able to move or do anything about it.

Hope you're OK.xxx

It’s really common. They would only meet a diagnosis and be treated really if they were causing you lots of distress or stopping you doing things you would normally do.

I get this too. Mainly shadows from the corner of my eye. Or in work and I think someone is standing behind me, I have sometimes heard voices when I'm about to fall asleep and (not recently) been woken up with loud music blaring my in my head!

I've mentioned this a few times to the mental health team I'm currently seeing, but they didn't seem that concerned about it.

I'm get the spiders thing too and mice. I also talk in my sleep.

I'm going to assume it's an anxiety thing maybe?

Mamabearx4 · 29/11/2018 22:42

My daughter gets it a longside her anxiety. Its horrible to watch. Shes had to sleep in with us during bad sessions. The spiders and voices terrified her. She is under cahms and is on meds to try and help. I would suggest speaking to your gp about it

I have a lot of hallucinations of all types. I see shadow people, random animals, smell things that arent there, feel things touching me and hear various voices (some narrating of what Im doing, shouting of names, horrible words and phrases).

I would recommend speaking to your gp or psychiatrist about it. Could be night time hallucinations, I think they're called hypnagogic ones. or could be something more.

PompomNoseRudolph · 30/11/2018 09:58

It's not night terrors as it's way before I even think of sleep. But it's always in the dark, the spiders.

I might mention it next time I see my Gp

I get this when my anxiety is bad, I remember the spiders being really bad after I’d had DD and put it down to tiredness. I would mention it at your next GP or mental health appointment just so that they’re aware and can monitor you. I only tend to hear and see things that aren’t there when my anxiety has made it hard for me to sleep at night and I’ve become over tired.

Bluerussian · 30/11/2018 10:05

I did a bit, for a short while, but was effect of meds.

Namechangerextraordinare101 · 30/11/2018 10:09

Yep. Spiders, ants, snakes and once even a rabbit turned out to be my pillow I thought I've seen whilst I've been asleep.

I talk a lot in my sleep too apparently.

Whilst I don't outwardly suffer with anxiety and take no medication, I do think the two are linked as it becomes worse for me when I've got a lot on my plate.

Pandamodium · 30/11/2018 10:20

Any stress or lack of sleep and I hear things. Nothing exciting just like my name or the kids saying mam when they aren't in the house. I'm self aware enough to know it's not real and I'm diagnosed with bipolar and PTSD.

DH has schizophrenia when he's been ill in the past he has heard/seen the tv talking to him, sending him messages etc and can't separate that from reality at all which is a lot worse.

Vicious2018 · 30/11/2018 11:42

I only see things when I am getting unwell. I see corpses, rats, wolves etc. These happen anytime a day and I get very scared afterwards.

HoppingPavlova · 30/11/2018 11:55

I have auditory hallucinations, generally at night. Occasionally during the day but when I’m on my own and not focusing on a task, more when ‘zoned out’.

I have depression and am medicated but the auditory hallucinations are put down to stress. I used to have a very stressful job and at the same time my home life was very stressful mainly due to SN kids, not enough hours in the day combined with stressful work situation and at some point my brain just broke Grin. It’s just one of those things I live with now.

Meds that assist sleep help me with that aspect during the night and if my brain is occupied and focused during the day then that fixes that aspect.

I have had occasional visual hallucinations over the years but in every case I had been up for over 72hrs straight so not unexpected really and certainly not indicative of an underlying problem.

Historydweeb · 02/12/2018 23:09

Are these loud noises in your ear at night just before you go to sleep?

I had this, often the voice of a man with a really deep voice either shouting my name or 'get out'. It terrified me and then I read about something called exploding head syndrome. Google it, it's a form of sleep disturbance even though you're awake

LaLaLamp · 02/12/2018 23:17

I've had stress related auditory hallucinations, it sounds like someone is turning a knob on an old fashioned radio and flicking through the channels, so there are lots of snippets.

I had the spider thing when I lived abroad, and used to wake up terrified. I am not scared of them either. I have sleepwalked and I have very lucid dreams at times.

HoppingPavlova · 03/12/2018 01:49

Are these loud noises in your ear at night just before you go to sleep?

Mine can be during sleep (woken up by them), when drifting off or during the day when I’m concentrating on something and it’s all quiet or when I’m zoning out.

HoppingPavlova · 03/12/2018 01:51

Sorry, forgot to add I have voices and noises and it’s more in my head than in my ears if that makes sense. Looks like everyone on the thread has a nice mixture of different things. Lucky us.

HJE17 · 03/12/2018 02:22

My sister has experienced this, during periods of extreme stress and depression. Definitely mention to your GP, though that should be sufficient. That said, if ever it becomes difficult to separate fact from fiction and/or if you start feeling compelled to harm yourself because of things you’re seeing or hearing, then you should urgently speak to a psychiatrist. Hope you’re ok. x
