EFT - Anyone tried it?

Considering it for flight anxiety but not sure. Practitioner wanted a bit of back history - mentioned anxiety has increased lately due to menopause, marital problems and a car accident in 2016 which she immediately leapt on as unprocessed trauma as I had brought this particular memory up? The shock certainly didn't help but wore off. I read it's very good for PTSD but I'm also a little hesitant about digging for trauma for the sake of the treatment. If that's makes sense! Any input appreciated Smile

If you are't comfortable with that practitioner look for another. Not all EFT practitioners need you to discuss trauma. You can wrap up any issues that you find difficult as a colour or a shape and tap on that. 'this blue square' etc instead of reliving any trauma it's not necessary to go back and feel it all again. As you tap on the flight issue other issues may present themselves and you can work on them too if you wish.

EFT can be quick and doesn't need much 'talk therapy' not all practitioners are batshit some are excellent. Matrix reprinting may interest you it can go hand in hand with EFT.

Good luck!

Thanks Queenofice. I've found another practitioner who offers a 30 min chat first and also weekly paid sessions instead of paying 450 in one lump sum. Also mentioned didn't have to go into anything else if it came up either so much happier!

Tried it a few years ago only because the woman said I only had to pay her if it worked, and I was sceptical. It didn't work.

Lol yes I watched a video of it and can't imagine sitting in the airport doing it. I'm afraid when people start talking you need X amount of sessions, paying up front or guilt trip you as 'if it's important you would pay' then I'm also sceptical and still a little unsure how it works as you rate your anxiety which when I'm sat in my front room, it's a 0 when I think about flying. I guess a good question for the free chat!

Just to add another experience. I’ve had a few sessions and it definitely worked for me. It got rid of a lifelong aversion to dogs (to the extent that I now have my own dog!) and using a simple descrete tapping routine on the tips of my fingers always calms me down (and I’m pretty sure it stopped me throwing up all over the dentist with nerves the other week Grin)

You do feel completely ridiculous doing it. Try some YouTube videos and just commit to trying it no matter how daft you feel. See where that leaves you.

Brilliant that it worked for you! Did you have to imagine the dogs to work on reducing the anxiety?

Weirdly it wasn’t even something that we worked on specifically. I think they dog issue had become connected in my brain to some emotional issues from my childhood (cliched eh? 🙄) and getting to work on those just meant that I became calmer and suddenly able to interact with dogs (having been almost phobic about touching them before). Turns out they’re awesome!

What I did find during the sessions is that there are some weird connections between issues in our head (like the dog thing) and the conversations (with a good practitioner) can move in unexpected directions. It’s not that you’re digging for traumas, as you put it, more that things just pop into your brain and you go with it. It’s all VERY odd and I would usually be really cynical, but it’s worked for me.

Some therapists might ask you what was happening around the time you first became anxious flying. There will be something that has triggered your anxiety and unlike a lot of therapies EFT doesn't require you to dig around and find yourself in an anxious state. They may ask you to think about getting on a plane or whatever the part is that makes you anxious and then ask you to rate that feeling from 1-10 from there you'll tap. It's quick and it can be really affective.

The good thing about it is once you've learnt it you can do it on your own. Some find tapping the collarbone alone calms them others you can just discreetly tap your fingers. It's a really good tool and not woo!

Seriously! That's just odd. I would have felt a self conscious burke too. And never gone back! I'm going to have a chat with the other lady and see how she works. A friend taught herself for confidence issues and says it helped so maybe for one off issues that's another option.

Queenofice I was thinking back to what was happening in 2005 and can only come up with the year before I had suffered an episode of anxiety/depression caused by a hormonal issue which has been an ongoing issue since I was a teen (PMDD/PND and now perimenopause is playing havoc). Not sure how tapping would work on a physical/genetic predisposition? Another question I guess!
