Fluoxetine.. can it be working already?

I went to gp and was given fluoxetine on Friday (now Tuesday) after 3 months off any anti depressants, feeling really bad again and was putting it off for various reasons.

I haven’t felt any side effects (nausea, dry mouth, extreme tiredness are the ones I read are most common) but I feel better already.. I feel calm and relaxed even when I’m alone for the first time in ages. Can they be working already? Could it be that accepting that I need them and other help (have appointment with therapist on Friday) has just lifted a weight?

Also - what are people’s experience with alcohol and depression? I don’t drink much but when I do and get drunk and have a hangover the next day it is like a comedown for days.. really really amplifies my depression and self hate and all the bad feelings I get? Is that normal? Do I just need to not drink?

A friend of mine was recently told ssris can kick in quite quickly, much quicker than the standard 4-6 weeks but there could well be some placebo effect too.

Alcohol is a massive depressant in itself so it might help to keep it small amounts and occasional until you're on a even keel, to avoid The Fear
