I have been on sertraline for 3 months for anxiety and I am feeling slightly better we have been slowly increasing my dose, the only side effect I have had is nausea & feeling pretty tired (although this has massively improved my sleep so not a bad thing for me)

I was on this to help with low moods and obsessive thinking, it really helped level me out and make me feel chilled for the first time in a long time. It messed up with my periods and I had zero libido (good thing for me as I was becoming obsessive over men that I’d have casual sex with). I’ve taken citralopram before and hated it, sertraline was very effective for me. Good luck and I hope that you’re feeling better soon.

I know quite a few people who have taken sertraline. It worked for some and didn't for others. Some had no side effects and some had lots. Unfortunately, this seems to be the case for anti depressants and psychotropic medications. The effects can vary enormously from person to person and you just have to keep trying until you find the one that works. And pay attention to the side effects because they are real. And make sure you are working with a prescriber who listens to you because your voice is hugely important in this process.
My ds was put on Olanzapine and had horrific side effects, which started showing up within a few days in smallish ways, but no one listened and it took 3 months and the arrival of horrific side effects before they agreed to take him off.

I’ve been on sertraline for a couple of weeks for anxiety. Has helped me calm down quite a bit. When I’ve taken it in the past I’ve beem sick but none of that this time. Do seem to be suffering from lack of ability to reach orgasm but at the moment this seems an ok trade off.

And just to add, some times it takes a combination of several medications to work. I know several people who have used a combination of an antidepressant with a very very low dose of aripiprazole very effectively for major depressive disorder when just the antidepressant alone wasn't enough.

I've just started Sertraline, too. Feeling intermittently flushed and clammy, with slight nausea and a bit of upset stomach. I've started out with a half dose; meant to go up to a full dose in a few days & really hoping the side effects will have settled down before then!

What time of day are you taking it, OP? I'm doing evenings, but thinking I should maybe switch to mornings.

Any advice appreciated!

I had the worst experience possible, my mood descended in to a black out. My GP told me to check back with them in a fortnight after prescribing it.

By day 3 it felt like I was staring down a dark tunnel and I was contemplating taking my own life. That day I spoke to my counselor it was a scheduled telephone session. Afterwards he rang my GP and she rang me about two hours after the session and told me to stop immediately and booked an appointment to check me out and prescribe mirtazapine.

It didn't work for me so monitor yourself carefully please, if your mood becomes darker call your doctor immediately.

I've been on sertraline for six weeks and my mood lifted within a week of starting it but my obsessive thoughts about things I've done wrong have got much worse over the last week.

Is it important to take it at exactly the same time every day?

MrsFoxPlus4 · 11/11/2018 07:21

Neither worked for me, I tried fluoxetine and worked up to 150mg and I still felt the exact same way. Switched to setraline worked up to 200mg and the only thing it done was suppress my appetite & give me an upset stomach. But I do know some people it has worked for so I wish you well. I’m currently unmedicated and waiting to see a phycatrist now :(! Good luck x

MrsFoxPlus4 · 11/11/2018 07:22

Oh I was told it does help taking it at the same time daily & to not skip a day.
