I’ve recently been prescribed Citalopram due to depression but I have avoided taking them due to constantly reading about the side affects and I’m terrified they will turn me crazy and I won’t be able to control my own thoughts. My depression is awful and affecting the whole family so I need to take them.
Please can I have your positive stories Smile

Thank you for asking moonlight and green.
I’m on day 6 and so far it’s going ok... I’ve had a spacey feeling from time to time and I’ve been anxious before falling asleep which is unusual but otherwise no major side effects so far. Not sure whether it is a placebo effect as it’s early days but I definitely feel calmer and less angry. The stress is still there but It feels easier to deal with.
Im feeling very reluctant to try drinking alcohol on them though as I’ve read some horror stories. I’ve considered giving it up for at least 6 months and focusing on myself but when we do rarely get a babysitter, we do enjoy going out for a drink. Also we have a holiday and Christmas coming up.

I've taken 40mg at night for around 16 years. I have regular reviews with a GP and have tried several times to reduce the dosage, which I can do quite successfully. But if the dose dips too low, or for too long, my symptoms return quite quickly.
So, with Citalopram I can live a mostly depression-free love de.
Without them, I can't!

Good luck OP and I hope you start to feel better soon. Well done for reaching out for help - it's not easy. But you're on the right road.

Been on them for 2 years.
Got 'myself' back. No side effects.

Another life changed here. Took away my anxiety and let me leave the house again. I’ve been on and off for 10 years. Every so often I come off them and then I’m usually fine for ages. When I feel the anxiety coming back I go on them again. I just had 2 years without them now I’ve been back on them for 4 months. They’re amazing.

I take 20mg. Takes about 2 weeks to feel the benefit of them. No side effects.

Been on them for 4 years. Love them. Totally has given me my life back. Very few side effects and I feel so much stronger now!

I was put on 10mg for anxiety and stress and it was wonderful. They made me feel "indifferent" to stressful situations, so I felt a bit "meh" which was brilliant! And no side effects at all.

This year I could feel a bit of my old feelings coming back so the doctor upped my dose to 20mg and straight away I felt better apart from an apparently rare side effect of constant jaw clenching. So I've put myself back down to 10mg again and the jaw clenching has stopped. And strangely I feel ok anyway back on 10mg.

Changed my life, and for the better!
