Emetophobia - Am I the only one?

Hi everyone

I'm really struggling at the moment. I hate this time of year because of all the bugs etc that are flying round. I have a 3 year old DS who goes to full time nursery and I work in a Primary School, and I'm constantly exposed to all kinds of illness. I'm terrified of sickness bugs. It's getting to the point where I'm having a panic attack if my DS says he has a tummy ache, or if someone in school is sick. I'm convinced every time that this is going to start a full blown epidemic and that I'm going to catch it. I've worked with talking therapies and have been signed off from them and was getting better. I do have good days and fewer bad days, but now the bug season has started, I'm a bit of a wreck! Am I the only one? I feel like no one gets it.

I've just been to the docs for my flu jab and the nurse told me she didn't feel well, I said ah have you got cold? She replied 'no, a sick bug'

Cue me going into panic mode, sweating, heart beating fast, and now I feel sick and can't stop worrying. I've washed my hands twice since I got in, she only touched my arm and I'm going to have a bath. How likely is it I'll catch it off her?

WTF is a NURSE doing at work with a sick bug. I'm so angry I feel like making an official complaint

A nurse coming into work with a sick bug is absolutely outrageous.

I’m suffering too this weekend. Went out for a birthday meal and my SIL had to go off and be sick after the mains. Apparently she hadn’t been feeling well all day. I managed to sit opposite her while we tried to get the bill, but eventually I had to leave the table and stand by the door with my coat on Blush

Omg I’d make an official complaint about the nurse!!!!!! Disgusting!!!!!

I was ok today til a friend in the school playground hugged me then told me a child in her sons class had been sick in the classroom last thing of the day!! Queue total panic in me and I’m now feeling sick!!

Just found someone online who reckons they can deffo cure emetaphobia!! It costs £795 for 10 weeks. What you think??

Flossie44 · 12/11/2018 18:42

Oh god I feel sick!! I’ve taken buscopam in case it’s ibs, and gaviscon in case it’s indigestion!! I’ve also had lemon and ginger tea!! Ffs I’m so scared!! We went away for the weekend, I used public loos, something I never ever do because of my phobia!! But I did this weekend!! As well as went to a shopping mall, and ate out!! In my head that’s so many risk factors!! And now I feel sick!!

Hope you are OK Flossie, fingers crossed it's just nerves making you feel ill.

Sadly contracting norovirus when the DC were small made my emetophobia even more severe. The only saving grace is that now they are out of primary school there are fewer facebook posts, and fewer bugs going around school

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 12/11/2018 19:40

I'm going to make a complaint about her I'm raging she would come into work with a bug. I'll be sending a letter in tomorrow and now I'll spend the next 3 days feeling ill.

Waves to fellow emetophobes

Long time sufferer here, I am hardly ever sick over 30 years for me and my kids are rarely too but not a day goes by without thinking and worrying about it.

There are some support groups on Facebook if anyone's interested but they can be a bit full on!

Anyway youngest DD has just gone to bed with lots of wind so of course I'm making more of that than I should Confused

Just wanted to give a hug to everyone struggling this week, esp to Flossie.

Flossie, did you get ill after the weekend? I hope not, because hopefully that will plant just a little seed in your brain (that will slowly develop) that going out for a meal, using a public loo and generally having a good time won't make you sick. I really hope you had a good weekend, that you enjoyed yourself and you survived. It would be a good idea to try to persuade yourself to do those fun things that you normally avoid... a little every day, every week. Live your life.

x
