Propranolol for anxiety and weight gain

Hi ladies
I've been given propranolol beta blockers for anxiety and I was pleased that something new would calm me down a bit. I told my mum and she said that beta blockers were terrible and I shouldn't take them. She told my my dad took them (20 yrs sgo) and he put 5 stone on. I really don't want that to happen! So I haven't taken them.
Have any of you taken them? Are they really as bad as my mum makes out?

Oh that's bollocks don't listen to her. I've been on them for anxiety for a year, maximum dosage and gained about a stone which I strongly suspect is due to working next to McDonald's and having a mcflurry every day of the summer.

I took them for months and didn't gain any weight, they did however cause problems with my eyes and I was unable to wear contact lenses but I believe it's rare and it did rectify itself

I've been on then years and weight gain isn't an issue.

I have heard a carb heavy diet would like on the pounds but that would happen without beta blockers so didn't pay much attention.

Been on them for 5 years or so, no weight gain. I'm not a gym bunny and am never or any particular diet.

No, they didn't cause any weight gain issues when I took them. Actually, I lost a lot of weight when I was on them, but pretty sure that was unrelated.

From what I understand, they're actually pretty innocuous when used properly. It was really nice not to feel my heart pounding like crazy every time something remotely surprising happened.

Good luck :)
