Hi all please give me some advice, I am on day 7 of 10mg citalopram and I feel awful. I lay on the sofa with no energy and Bad nausea and headaches at the back then I start panicking that something else is wrong or just side effects? Thank you.

How long have you been on it, OP?

BareBum · 02/10/2018 21:32

She says she’s on day 7.

BareBum · 02/10/2018 21:33

Citalopram took a couple of weeks to work for me.

revoveryishard · 02/10/2018 21:33

I think those are side effects if I remember correctly. If you are concerned contact your GP and I'm sure they will see you/talk to you on the phone- have you read the leaflet for common side effects?

I feel weak too. The Dr has prescribed me diazepam now to help.

They take a couple of weeks to get used to. I didn't get along with them at all and had to come off them when the hallucinations started getting worse but the sickness and tiredness does subside after about a fortnight.

ChoudeBruxelles · 02/10/2018 22:11

What time do you take the tablets? Take them at bed time. I found it helps to lessen side effects

jaydensdaddy232 · 02/10/2018 23:39

I take them around 9pm but here I am now struggling to sleep

I’m trying to get my head round why these are so widely prescribed. Half the world seems to be on them! I’ve stopped six weeks ago after 28 years and the withdrawal symptoms are absolutely horrendous. It’s now being broadcast just how bad these symptoms are, even with short term use, whereas medical professionals advised that you would be symptom free within a fortnight. I wish!

jaydensdaddy232 · 03/10/2018 10:38

I hope my symptoms go away in a fortnight! As I feel like shit.

Hello lovely. I've been on them three weeks and I'm starting to feel a benefit but the dr advised that it could take 6 weeks for them to properly kick in.

The first couple of weeks was pretty rough. I got a few palpitations and extra anxious days but they seem to be getting less and less now.

Hang in there OP! You've done amazingly well getting help so don't forget that! Thanks

stressedwoman · 03/10/2018 10:43

Just realised the irony of my username. Considerably less stressed now!

MrsMarigold · 03/10/2018 10:47

I've been on citalopram for years initially difficult but fine after awhile just don't come off them suddenly.

jaydensdaddy232 · 03/10/2018 11:12

Thanks guys I need the advice and help you all give

Can't seem to shift this bloody headache! Paracetamol takes the edge off for a couple of hours. When the citalopram finally kicks in will these headaches go??

OP posts:
didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 03/10/2018 22:07

Should do. Might be tension? Have you tried ibuprofen? It might be better as it relaxes your muscles a little.

BleakBetty · 03/10/2018 22:11

I got really bad headaches at first, and they do go, don’t worry. Stick with it!

jaydensdaddy232 · 03/10/2018 22:44

8th day now and it's a living nightmare, I wake up with nausea and headache everyday

greaselightnin · 03/10/2018 22:46

I had the exact same symptoms for a few weeks but when this goes and they start to work it really is worth it so hang in there. And just don't miss any because even if I miss a couple of days I feel really rough. The joys!

jaydensdaddy232 · 03/10/2018 22:50

Lol I won't ever miss one as I hate feeling like this! Feels like it won't get better ever!

OP posts:
jaydensdaddy232 · 04/10/2018 18:48

Lorazepam or beta blockers to stop the weird panic attacks at night??

OP posts:
stressedwoman · 04/10/2018 19:21

I would just try to ride it out if you can but please go to your GP. I felt sick as a dog and had a really 'fluttery' heart for the first couple of weeks. I also felt really hot all the time! Made me feel sicker and more anxious. But honestly it does get better.

You're doing so well, rest as much as you can and take some time for yourself, but as I said always GP if you're concerned, that's what they're there for.

Xx

jaydensdaddy232 · 04/10/2018 19:44

When the citalopram kicks in will my panic attacks go away? I have never suffered from them. The doctor says they will but I want to hear it from other sufferers
