Not slept for about two weeks. My anxiety levels are so high. I’m shaking, been sick and am so ful of awful thoughts. Anybody awake?

You poor thing. Do you have any prescription meds for the anxiety?
Could you see your GP?
What are you anxious about- anything in particular or generally?

Bumbledop · 23/09/2018 00:19

I’m on 30mg citalopram, increased it recently from 29ng but I don’t think it’s helping. It’s a general anxiety. Not coping at all tonight

I'm sorry you are feeling so bad bumbledob, have you tried downloading the headspace app, also try and make a ice warm drink, I like camamile tea and a hot water bottle, maybe you could watch a nice happy heart warming film to take you mind away from its bad place

Cherrybomball · 23/09/2018 00:26

*nice warm drink...

daisychain01 · 23/09/2018 00:28

Would it be worth going for a walk if the weather isn't too bad where you are. Lots of deep controlled breathing can help dispel the worst symptoms and it can clear your head.

Sorry you're not so chipper, hope you're OK there ((((hugs))))

Bumbledop · 23/09/2018 00:31

Thank you, it’s a bit cold and dark to go for a walk. Middle of the night. Can I call Samaritans?

IsBadLuckaThing · 23/09/2018 00:31

Sorry to hear that it's a difficult time for you. How long have you been on the medication for? Try using some lavender oil on your pillow, it generally helps me when I am not feeling too good. Try to relax in a calm environment, some deep breathing followed by a warm drink. Hope you feel better soon.

AutisticHedgehog · 23/09/2018 00:34

Yes you can definitely call the Samaritans. I think that’s a good idea.

IsBadLuckaThing · 23/09/2018 00:39

I have sent a PM. Please check

dontknowwhattodo80 · 23/09/2018 00:39

Of course you can ring Samaritans @Bumbledop x

Is there anything that normally helps to soothe you? I like a warm bath, coziness ( bed socks/blankets), playing a brain numbing game on my phone, watching a funny film / stand up comedy, drinking hot chocolate.

None of it takes all the anxiety away but just helps in the here and now. I also like sitting and stroking my dog.

Keep talking @Bumbledop x

Marjie3 · 23/09/2018 00:41

Do you have any rescue remedy?

LollySox · 23/09/2018 00:42

I'm just coming off citalopram as it was making me sleep worse. Was giving me horribly grotesque nightmares which were making me wake up having a panic attack. Samaritans is a good idea and speak to your doctor when you can. Flowers

fieryginger · 23/09/2018 00:45

There's a website called No More Panic that has a forum with so many different types of anxiety, depression and panic attacks. It's worth a look.

Spidersinmysocks · 23/09/2018 00:45

You can call ,ring or text Samaritans. I'm sure someone on another thread posted a number you can text for a crisis counsellor too. I will try and find it.

Have you been offered CBT at all? I know people who it really helped with horrible thoughts.

Marjie3 · 23/09/2018 00:46

For a short term fix

  1. A squirt of rescue remedy
  2. 2 minutes of intense exercise ( press ups, lunges, squats
  3. Deep breathing, breathe in for 4, hold for 4, breathe out for 4
LLAP · 23/09/2018 00:46

Samaritans definitely.

I also agree a movie, a warm drink, if you have a garden wrap up go outside and take five minutes to deep breath and look at the moon/stars (helps me).

Ultraista · 23/09/2018 00:48

Could be worth trying propanolol. I used that when I had severe anxiety and it did help. I did have to go to my gp for it, I was on sertraline at the time.

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 23/09/2018 00:49

Hello OP. Yes, do call the Samaritans, and call them again whenever you need to. BrewFlowers

Bumbledop · 23/09/2018 01:10

Just off the phone from the Samaritans! What wonderful people. It’s helped. I’m going to have some rescue remedy and see if I can watch a film as suggested. Might give up on sleep, but at least not panic about it. Nausea seems to have eased thank goodness. Thank you all, I will reread your suggestions

Bumbledop · 23/09/2018 01:14

Oh.. I’ve been on the medication for 10 years. I’ve just increased it to 30 a few mo this ago.

So glad to hear that OP. The lack of sleep will be making you feel worse, both physically and mentally. It's a vicious circle, isn't it? Sleep deprivation is a terrible thing for the mind and body. Relax under a blanket or quilt on the sofa, or rest in the day if you can. You never know, you might drop off, but if not at least you're resting. Take care.

Cherrybomball · 23/09/2018 01:37

So glad the smaritins helped, cosy up with a film sounds a good plan, don't worry about sleep, just try to relax and have some down time, I also have started taking women's multi vitiams everyday, I don't know if it is a placbo but they me feel better, take care of your self

Bumbledop · 23/09/2018 01:45

The multi vitamins are a good idea. I’m actually sat here doing/making notes for my daughters homework. Not feeling so good again sorry to say. Lack of sleep is awfulSad

OP posts:
raeray · 23/09/2018 01:58

Insomnia is bloody awful.
I find myself worrying about things I never would normally or at the very least be able to rationalise during the day.
So you're not alone there by any means Thanks

If you feel worse again OP you can always call Samaritans back again or text them.

Be kind to yourself, have a warm milky drink, a little snack and open a window to have some fresh air circulating.
Also I find podcasts or random Netflix programmes can help me nod off or at least take my mind off worrying so might be worth a try?
