Hi every one

Things have been very difficult for me Larry and I'm.now on 60mg of fluoxetine , propanol 10mg ×3, diazepam 5mg ×2 and lyr ica 75mg ×2band 50mg ampytripyline at night and a sleeping pill

so with all that medication i still want to just stay in my bed. I've gained so much weight I was never skinny but I went from 10st4lb to 12st 7lb which is really upsetting me. They did mention changing me from.fluoxetine but its the only anti depressants I've taken.

Really what I'm asking is there any other anti depressants out there that people have had a good experience with

How the hell do i get myself out of my bed and living life

My weight how do i get rid of it it's just going up and up and it's making me so down I'm only 5ft 1lb

Please I need some advice or help this all came from. me being bullied at work. f or over a year I dont want to give too much details but it was bad.

Thank you to anyone who replies

Do you have anxiety with depression? It seems like it with the meds.

I take high dose anti psychotics, anti depressants & anti epileptics so I get very sleepy & very hungry!!

I find that unless I really watch my diet my weight just increases.
I was referred to an nhs dietitian by my gp who helped me lose some weight by calorie counting & doing some cognitive behavioural therapy around my eating habits.

Maybe see if you can get a referral.

Or try slimming world as lots of people I know have been successful with that.

I've found weight loss is mainly about diet which is lucky as I find I get too tired to do a lot of exercise, however a good workout does give me a boost.

It's hard to say a different medication as some things work better for some and different ones for others, but if you're still struggling then it does sound like a review of your antidepressant may be in order, and either switching to a different SSRI or possibly an SNRI.

tooodlepip · 12/09/2018 22:23

Sorry what's an snri
I never thought about a dietician

OP posts:
maxthemartian · 13/09/2018 10:17

SNRIs increase noradrenaline as well as serotonin and can sometimes be effective where an SSRI like fluoxitine is not working as well as it should.
The most commonly prescribed one is Venlefaxine I think.

tooodlepip · 13/09/2018 21:24

Ok thank you I will ask my gp do they have a lot of side effects

OP posts:
tierraJ · 14/09/2018 08:40

I take Venlafaxine but I do take a high dose, 300mg modified release.

There are some side effects but I can live with them, I couldn't live with the depression.

tooodlepip · 14/09/2018 18:20

Do you mind if i ask what the side effects are thank

I have found a comparison chart for antidepressants to take and discuss with your team, they know you and we are all randoms on the internet

Uptodate is a website which is used by professionals for evidence-based practice and research - UpToDate is a clinical decision making resource www.uptodate.com/home

Just from a look at your meds, I can see that the Lyrica, diazepam, amitriptyline and propranolol can all make you sleepy and other effects can be to make you extra hungry and slow your metabolism down and you end up gaining weight very easily.

I say this as someone who is now morbidly obese and currently am on a cocktail of 2 antidepressants, high dose antipsychotics, mood stabilisers and antiepileptics with tons of other stuff over the past 25 years. Other factors in life have played a part in my weight but medication has been a major one.

Lyrica and its "sister" drug gabapentin made me want to eat everything in sight however for me that lasted a short time before they made me deeply depressed and I had to be taken off them, I had severe side effects which ended me up with a stay in a medical ward followed by a psych ward to withdraw safely from both. This is just my experience but anxiety was 100 times worse for me while I was on Lyrica. Both of these made me suidical first and then homicidal, not nice at all.

I am very sensitive to serotonin and GABA related drugs. I have been treated for serotonin syndrome twice but need to stay on my current regime as otherwise, I would probably be dead, it's a sensitive balance but necessary.

Good luck, I hope the chart helps you

solarscope · 14/09/2018 19:44

I have tried many antidepressants. The only one that has helped me is sertraline.

Smurfy do you have similar table for antipsychotics? I have gotten bad side effects from pretty much everyone. I am now on lurasidone which I seem to tolerate.

MrsZB · 14/09/2018 20:03

Are you having some counselling/therapy as well as the medication?

In my experience medication can help but some counselling with someone that you like is also invaluable.

smurfy2015 · 15/09/2018 02:48

@solarscope Hopefully this will help

OP posts:
smurfy2015 · 17/09/2018 13:28

Hope the phone calls go well.

If being changed over a different med I can recommend this website for good information www.choiceandmedication.org/behmht/

tierraJ · 17/09/2018 13:46

Hi the 2 main side effects for me of high dose Venlafaxine have been to affect the muscles in my eyes & my bladder.

My eyes now get tired very easily which mean things get blurry so I have to wear glasses with a prism in.

I also embarrassingly lost a bit of bladder tone so I take Oxybutynin 5mg twice a day to prevent accidents.

These are rare side effects though!

I also get very tired but that could be my other meds as well.

I still get depressed & even suicidal at times but for much shorter periods than before, it's like I can feel the meds kicking in & lifting my mood.

tooodlepip · 18/09/2018 13:06

Hi

Update I'm moving straight onto 75mg of vensir xl so venelfaxin and tramadol slow release for my back

So I've also been advised to drop the ampytripiline but that was today by another dr so im not sure what to do about that she said to half the dose first to 25mg at night

I'm really nervous about this I've been on fluoxetine a long time so moving to some thing else it's an awful experience. It's bad enough having depression and anxiety but then we all have to play guinea pig with our bodies for treatment. I'm talking about everyone who goes through this I just wish it was simple.

Anybody know what I can expect I know some sides effects have been mentioned I already have an overactive bladder that's no fun at night either

I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself im fighting the urge to switch off and stay out of my bed

OP posts:
tooodlepip · 19/09/2018 01:33

Sorry shameful bump. Just need hand holding

OP posts:
smurfy2015 · 19/09/2018 06:39

@tooodlepip handhold from me.

Would consider a chat with the pharmacist on the phone about venlafaxine xr and tramadol slow release together.

I dont want to alarm you but both work on the same brain chemicals and can cause a major interaction. In my experience, often GPs arent aware of this, I know from personal experience being given both at same time. I lost over a stone in weight in one day it made me so ill, if I had tried to continue on, it would have been lethal. It can trigger a condition that you need to be aware of called Serotonin syndrome

smurfy2015 · 19/09/2018 06:43

Knowledge is power in this case as if it kicks off, you may not realise what is happening and think its a side effect of new meds (which it is)

www.nhs.uk/conditions/antidepressants/side-effects/

If you become ill all of a sudden and meet the symptoms listed on that link under SS - get help

Ive had it twice and it is nasty

Cowardlycustard2 · 19/09/2018 07:04

I hope you get your meds sorted soon OP, just wanted to say re Lyrica/Pregabalin, it's a horrid drug, made me put on lots of weight and feel suicidal. I am on Sertraline now and have lost a bit of weight on it. Speak to your doc re interaction between Tramadol and antidepressants as PP advised as can react together. Hope you are feeling better soon x

tooodlepip · 19/09/2018 09:08

Oh shit I've just taken my tramadol and vensir.

Your right about the lyr ica I'm 13 stone according to my scales in the middle of the night I've never been that weight not even at full term pregnancy

Dr ringing today again the receptionists must think I'm nuts I've requested a call every day this week.

OP posts:
smurfy2015 · 19/09/2018 13:12

@tierraJ - just to say I'm not a medic of any sort, this is from my own experience and is not medical advice, just something that may help you with side effects as it helped me.

Would you consider discussing with your Dr about Kemadrin / procyclidine as its a medication

@solarscope you don't have to suffer from the effects of shaky hands either - something you might consider discussing with your GP as well - this helps to counteract the side effects

In my own experience it was coming from extrapyramidal side effects and depending on which antipsychotic you are on some can be worse than others for this

I used to have episodes of my eyes rolling to the ceiling and no matter what I did I couldn't get them back down, I also had Parkinson like symptoms, (rigidity and eventually tardive dyskinesia) this medication resolved both for me within 10 mins of taking a dose which for me was PRN.

Good luck, but that's not medical advice just sharing what helped me and if you discuss with your Drs, they will help you work out if its suitable in your case
