Faux happiness

I have fought against Anxiety and Depression for a long time but after a year and a half of relentless battering to my mental health I finally agreed with my GP it was time to start taking AD's.

I starting taking Sertraline yesterday, I was awake all night - literally, and this this morning after taking the second one have found myself talking at ridiculous speed, iv cleaned my house top to bottom and down 3 loads of washing and I'm feeling euphoric. I don't feel in the slightest bit tired.

The problem is iv gone from not being able to get dressed, sitting with the curtains shut and letting the house fall apart to this OVER NIGHT and I'm concerned as the packaging states you should contact your gp if you feel 'overly happy' but I don't want this to go away.

Does any know why you have to inform your GP if you feeling great?

Mouseville, well done for doing something about your symptoms. I've taken ADs at various times in my life, and found the first few weeks to be difficult each time. I was prescribed Sertraline for a while and I do remember my GP saying that with some people, it can make them feel "invincible", which could lead them into dangerous situations. It didn't have that effect on me, but maybe that's what the packaging is getting it. Perhaps it's something to mention to your doctor just to be on the safe side. Hope things settle down for you soon.

@uberalice that makes a lot of sense.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

I was the exact same when I first started taking sertraline. I've been on it for 3 weeks now. My first week was how you described, it was literally like l night and day. Then about a week later I crashed again. So just be prepared for that if it happens.

I spoke to my crisis team about it, but was told just to keep an eye out on my moods. At the moment it's still very up and down, but I haven't had the hynerness I did in the first week.
