Missing Citalopram

Hello,
I wanted to ask for some advice please. I take 10mg Citalopram but I am away on holiday now and have been since last Saturday and I've only just now realised I've not had any of my medicine. It's here with me now, I just never thought to take it out of my wash bag.
Thing is, I've had no withdrawal side effects that I am aware of anyway. Does this mean I am better? I take them for mild ocd and panic attacks for reference.
Would you take this opportunity to stop taking them all together?

Or is it a bad sign now that I've realised this that I am proper flapping about it 😬

Maybe ring your GP and chat about this. It might be that you are feeling better and don’t need the meds or it could be that you’re relaxed due to being in holiday but still really need the meds.

How were you doing before this? Had you developed strategies to manage your OCD

You could always test the water. So continue without and see how it goes. You can restart at any point. It might be that a lower dose of the meds might be more suited?

You may find the side effects kick in next week. It took me 6 months to come off 10mg and I had many physical and emotional side effects during that time. I was cutting pills into tiny pieces to reduce them gradually to lessen it. But everyone is different. Some people can stop immediately with no effects apparently.

If you are in the UK then a pharmacy should give you a small amount. They might need to speak to your doctor.

I take 20mg. Once I ran out due to utter incompetence from the GP practice and didn't have any for about 5 days. The withdrawal was physical. I felt a bit shivery and like I was getting tiny shocks through my body. It was not great but not that bad. The original symptoms of depression did not come back.

At the moment I'm feeling fine.
How do you know when you are ready to stop taking them?
Is there a benefit to not taking them?
I piled on weight around the time I started having g them but I don't know if it's related?

Also thank you to you all for responding Smile

The withdrawal symptoms are like small electric shocks, or as if a pause button has been pressed and then your brain restarts. It's very strange. It might help you to know what these are if you get them.
I'd phone your doctor and ask them what to do.
Sorry, I hope this isn't spoiling your holiday.

neuroticnumpty · 31/08/2018 09:22

Thank you, that's good to know. I suppose it's possible I've just not noticed in my holiday cocktail haze.
I'm worried that if I have one now it will spike my anxiety. I'm on a boat trip this afternoon and flying home tomorrow. I'm usually nervous doing these things anyway so I wouldn't like to make it any worse than it has to be...
I've left a message for my GP. It's anyone's guess if he will get back to me today. He's quite hit and miss but a very good doctor nevertheless

The other thing bothering me is that I might need to take a travel sickness tablet later and the leaflet says that they interact with antidepressants...

I think you’d be fine to take them with travel sickness pills. I have before. I think it’s a different type of anti depressant they are referring to like MAOIs or something.
I would list continue taking them as normal or every other day. Then speak to doctor when you get home about coming off.
Benefit to not being on them for me is return of sex drive (they killed it) and just feeling I don’t need them. Only you know when it’s time to come off.
