16-8 diet for depression

This diet cured my insomnia and depression after suffering for 15 long years.
It is definitely worth giving a go if you're at a complete loss.
I felt better after 1 week and a different person after 6 weeks. Breakfast at 10:30, dinner at 6:30.
Let me know if it helps anyone. Good luck

How does it work?

You fast for 16 hours of the day and eat as normal for the other 8. Most people do it for weight loss but the effects on mental health also seem to be impressive. I make sure I finish my evening meal by 6:30 then I eat a late breakfast at 10:30 and lunch at 1:00pm with snacks in between. It seems the stomach is the 2nd brain so look after your guts and your brain will automatically feel the benefits. It has been little short of a miracle for me. 3 months on I'm still sleeping and have loads of energy.

Hi

I read up on this recently so decided to try it last week and lost 6lbs. I feel much better and not hungry at all. I’m sticking to to it this week aswell.

M1innie - that's great news! I never thought I'd be able to wait until 10:30 for breakfast but I got used to it quickly and I also never go hungry.
I would be so thrilled if this post helped just 1 person so do post if you try it and have positive results.

I read somewhere it can affect your natural body rhythm and has the potential to cause early onset menopause

Not sure where you read that as if anythING, in my experience, I now no longer have night sweats or heavy periods. Because my main debilitating symptoms were insomnia and fatigue , these added extras almost went unnoticed.

So far so good and my partner and sisters are also doing it and have seen positive results. I didn’t think I could do without my coffee first thing but I have got use to coffee without milk now. I do it from 1130 to 1930. There are going to be pros and cons but everyone is different and I say try it and it may work for you.

It’s great that it’s worked for you OP, but I’d be dubious about this long term, unless you’ve got scientific evidence to back it up.

Whenever I’ve been in hospital having all meals within a 8/9 hour window (due to staffing) hasn’t helped my depression/sleep at all, even during very long stays.

When I was anorexic I felt better than when I was eating...starving yourself causes a ‘high’. It doesn’t last long term though.

Sticking to strict timescales doesn’t work socially either, nor if you do any sport, and keeping active is proven to help MH. I don’t eat late at night though, or large amounts in the evening because it is impossible to sleep otherwise. You don’t want your system to be working hard digesting food when you’re trying to sleep, so I can see that stopping eating fairly early could help, but I can’t see how avoiding eating til later in the morning would.

It might be good for weight loss but as a way of life I’m sceptical.
