I'm feeling so bad. I've been on sertraline 50mg for 5 days now and I just feel awful.

Is it the pills making me worse or has my mental health deteriorated?

I am feeling more anxious, more depressed. My clarity of thought has gone. My skin is burning. I feel incredibly nauseous and haven't eaten since Friday.

I am all alone as DD is with her father.

Do I continue with the pills,
Do I stop? Who on a Sunday can I call for support?

Be careful taking it right before lieing down, ive read quite a few tales online of it getting stuck and causing a burning sensation. Id try and take an hour before lieing down to be on the safe side. Dp is taking his around 7pm and we are usually laid in bed by 8, 8.30 watching tv. He originally took it on a morning but felt the symptoms were too bad through the day.

Little update and a question

So I'm still struggling with full on tears and emotional pain. Side effects still there but less. Anxiety grips first thing for a few hours. And then flashes throughout the day.

It's day 9 of 50mg sertraline. Went to the docs to talk about increasing the dose and she said not yet. Have to wait for 2-3 weeks. She did prescribe propranolol.

Has anyone had any experience of that?

You might be fine on 50mg when it's had chance to kick in. Propanol brilliant for physical symptoms such as rapid heart beat but won't help with psychological symptoms. That's what the sertraline is for. Hang in there. Only a few more days and you'll be at 2 weeks!

OP please read what I wrote about taking it well before you lie down. I take mine after eating in the evening, a good 2-3 hours before bed.

redsky21 · 16/08/2018 22:38

Propanolol supposed to be good for physical symptoms, but never did much for me. Hope it helps you and that things settle down soon.

Thanks everyone.

Today is the first possible day of light as I have been a bit ok! Thanks for the info on propandol - the gp was not making much sense.

Fingers crossed xxxx

A glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel! Should see more if that light each day now but don't be discouraged if you have an off day and feel like you've taken a step backwards as that will happen too.

@Ginandtonic4all

Im two weeks into 50mg and it's been hell. I'm really pleased to see that you're feeling a little better, it gives me hope.

I called my GP and she was very dismissive of me. She just told me to start 100mg and to ride it out Hmm

Ginandtonic4all · 18/08/2018 21:06

@CuntyBumpkin I love your username x

It is truly shit. And a rollercoaster. But so far what everyone says seems to be true. Yesterday I felt relatively normal, today I have not stopped crying and wishing I had never been born, then around 9pm I'm all normal again.

If you want to PM me do so and we can compare notes xxx

It took me almost a month to feel on an even keel with them, and ended up on 100mg. My GP said she rarely saw anyone who felt really well on just 50mg.
Hang in there and speak to your GP as soon as you can.

CuntyBumpkin · 18/08/2018 21:38

Thank you @Ginandtonic4all Smile

You know the saying "stop the world, I want to get off"? That's me right now.
I don't know if I'm coming or going.

It's the people around that I feel for too. My poor DH doesn't know what's going on Sad

Ginandtonic4all · 19/08/2018 09:40

So I've increased my dose to 100mg. What do people experience when they increase their dose?
