Needing a repeat prescription of anti depressants

Was seen by a psychiatrist last week and was given a week's worth of anti depressants and a follow up session to see how I'm getting on.

Did something very stupid last night. I'm at a very low point just now. Cut the long story short, I took an overdose, was taken to hospital and was seen by another psychiatrist (I'm seeing another one next Monday)

I was told to keep taking my anti depressants but I forgot to tell them I don't have any left. Should I ring the GP tomorrow, explain what happened and ask for a new prescription?

Flowers That sounds like the sensible thing to do. And good luck xx

🙄 They should have checked this with you on discharge. call your GP in the morning and ask for another prescription. They'll have a fax/letter from psych liaison letting them know of your contact with them and that you've been advised to continue with your treatment as normal.

Yes do ask. I ran out this week and GP fast tracked a prescription for me that same day. Good luck with the Monday appointment.

Yes, tell the GP tomorrow, so you can resume taking them as soon as possible. Thanks

They never asked me if I had any left, they just said to keep taking them. I was too exhausted to have a proper conversation at the time.

My psychiatrist is seeing me next week to see how I'm getting on with the anti depressants, but because I don't have any now, I won't be able to give any feedback (apart from my stupidity yesterday) so if I ring up and explain what happened, can I get a prescription the same day?

I'm also seeing the mental health assessment service team at the psychiatric hospital this Friday as well. It will be the same person I saw yesterday.

Some GPS need a couple of days to do a prescription, others will do the same day. Some you can do over the phone, others not. Best to just ring them in the morning and they'll explain their process/how long it will take.

Good luck OP. Don't worry about the GP too much, just stick to the facts (that you need a repeat prescription) and you can talk through the weekend with mh professionals at your booked appointments.

Do make sure they understand why you've run out.

At my meeting a week or two after I'd started taking ADs, I told my psychiatrist I was still feeling suicidal. We had our meetings at my GP's surgery. At the end of the session, she got up, found a GP & got them to write me a prescription there & then to up my dosage. It made a big difference.

Thank you for everyone's replies. I rang my GP surgery, was told to come in a write down that I need a new prescription and that it was urgent.

The receptionist said they weren't going to give me any at all because of what happened. Que mini panic attack, rang the psychiatric hospital, explained what happened and that I need a new prescription. Was told that it was classed as an emergency and that if they won't write me a new one they would ring up for me.

About two hours later got a call from my GP who gave me the prescription, so picking it up later on today.

I know it's my own stupid fault for being an idiot, but my stress levels are through the roof now and I can't stop shaking from it. Just trying to calm myself down.

They already know I'm feeling suicidal.
