Anexity over flying any tips on how to be calm

Due to go on holiday Saturday and I'm a mix bag of emotions one half I'm excited and the other half anexity as I'm not a a good flyer

First ever holiday was Spain was about 2 but since then our family holidays were always at caravan parks. We never questioned why it was this and never abroad. 2016 was my first ever flight since I was 2 ( was 32 then) and was a nervous wreck lol. We have a early morning flight and takes just under 2 hrs but I'm already panicking the reason being I'm undergoing investigating by the docs for high blood pressure though I'm not on any tabs as they think it's due to anexity and white coat syndrome I'm nervous about flying in case it affects bp.

Will bp be ok while flying if it's under a 2 hr flight and how can I settle my nerves before the flight. Any advice with be helpful

You can always go and see your gp and ask for diazepam. It is excellent for this kind of thing, and helps you to stay calm.

I have anxiety about flying too which I think comes from a fear that of loss of control. It therefore hasn’t helped me to research how planes fly and why they are safe (though I have and now know a LOT about aviation 🙂) but you might find it helpful and reassuring.

You will be fine, and so glad you did it once you are there.

Look into DARE, it's a book you can download. It can help you with the thoughts behind the anxiety.

Thanks for some of the advice

I keep telling my self I'll be fine was ok flying in 2016 think I'm more panicky now as I'm aware of a slight high bp since last year so that's making me think will I be ok will I notice anything etc what if

Trying to say to myself I could of had the slight high bp back in 2016 so nothing's really changed and if it was that bad I would of A been told and B put on tabs

I get really anxious before flights which is extra bad for me because I fly several times a year but I used to be much, much worse. Like a pp said I did get diazipan once (went to Australia!) and it did worked but what worked more was researching aviation like madge said and also I downloaded a meditation app called flying without fear. Sounds daft but when it did get a bit bumpy on one flight I put it on, did the breathing exercises and was fine!

I have never been away and i am 29. I have booked my first holiday. I am terrified of the udea if take off i hate rollercoasters and i am worried it eill be like this. Also scared at the thought of how high up you are x

I feel sick with worry too, chest tightness included and I fly on Friday. Flight time 2hrs 20mins. I absolutely refuse to be medicated though. Anxiety is created by mental images that you create yourself. Each time you imagine the worst case scenario - panic attack onboard is mine - I add silly things to the fear, like party hats on all the passengers, funny outfits. It changes the perspective and proves that you're in control

Feel calmer the now about the whole flight was sitting thinking that my worries are in relation to health ie how flying affects your blood pressure think that's the thing that's bothering me more but I've said to my self I may have had a touch of high blood pressure back in 2016 and travelled by plane and was ok so how's this year any different.

When i went on my first flight in over 30 years I hated the take off but was ok once it was up in the air and on landing.

I'm determined to beat this as will be going on honeymoon in 2 years Smile
