OCD getting worse is it meds or me? Would love to hear from anyone who has beaten or much improved their OCD.

It's mirtazipine I'm on. It is helping the depression side but anxiety getting worse and OCD getting worse.

Cpn thinks it is because I'm challenging the OCD and its 'fighting back' this is not something I have experienced before.

But then I've tried various different meds and treatments and nothing's 'taken' permanently in the past so maybe this is a good thing? (Although doesn't bloody feel like it).

Seeing Cpn tomorrow and can discuss more in depth then.

Meanwhile just stressed!

Anyone who has achieved a significant amount of improvement in their OCD I'd love to hear from.

Have you ever tried fluoxetine? I suffer with OCD and Depression. I’ve always found it to be helpful at around 40-60mg although, I’ve been on and off or for around 7 years and it’s taking longer to work for this bout of depression. OCD has disappeared though. Good luck x

Yes tried it years ago, it's Prozac, had no effect on me.

Hi OP,

I have managed to get my OCD much more under control through a combination of meds and high intensity CBT. I take escitalopram 10mg daily. My ex took mirtazipine, but for depression rather than OCD, and didn't get on with it all, though I also know others who did well on it. Have you been taking it long? I have also found in my experience that things can get a bit worse before they get better with new medication.

Streas absolutely affects my OCD. I would say 90% of the time it is under control (as in that it doesn't really affect my day to day life anymore, where as it used to control it), but in times of stress or change it can flare up again until things feel more settled. Trying to manage the stress helps, and telling myself it is just temporary.

I also found this book very helpful when it was really bad: www.amazon.co.uk/Break-Free-OCD-Overcoming-Compulsive/dp/0091939690?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Much better than any other book I've read. I would use an exercise book and work through the tasks and found it really helpful for overcoming intrusive thoughts. The other thing that really made a difference was finding a therapist with a good understanding and experience of OCD - previous therapists I had seen weren't nearly so helpful.

I've been on it 10 weeks, first week or 2 (can't remember) was low dose 15mg then increased to 30mg.

Cbt doesn't work for me tried it several times it just doesn't, makes me worse.

I’ve heard about Sertraline before, it is any good for depression? I’ve been on and off Prozac/fluoxetine for years. I’m on week 5 now and whilst the OCD is now having minimal effect and I’m no longer crying every day, I still feel shit. I’m sleeping sooo much. Has it stopped working? Should I try another?

I've not tried sertraline. Fluoxetine/Prozac does nothing for me at all.

Just spoken with cpn, until now I've liked her but just had a very frustrating conversation. I really don't feel the mirtazipine is working. Been on it 10 weeks now and if anything I'm getting worse!!

Hating this! Feeling like I'm not being listened to or understood. Just pushed to do things that make me feel so very anxious and stressed. Not feeling supported.

Any advice or camaraderie would be good right now! So bloody sick of feeling this way. Nothing seems to work permanently, nothing helps.
