Citalopram and itching!!! What should I do?

I have been taking Citalopram for just over three weeks now. This week I have really been itching all over my arms and hands. Has anyone else had this side effect and do you think I should see my GP? I am going on holiday on friday morning and that is the only time I can get an appointment (drop-in). Need advice please!

Hi. I had a similar experience - itchy arms after about a week, as well as being very shaky! I saw my GP and my tablets were changed, so I'd get it checked out just to be on the safe side. Have a lovely holiday!

cheers kiminutter! It means that I will have to postpone going on holiday which is a bit of a bummer as we were hoping to miss the Bank holiday traffic by going early on Friday. Oh bugger..

If I am honest I have felt a wee bit restless over the last few days too. Did the doc say what was causing the itchiness?

The itchiness is listed as a side effect (not a common one though) and my GP was more concerned about how shaky I was. I started taking fluoxetine (I think) instead and the side effects stopped almost immediately.
If you explain to the surgery that you are having unpleasant side effects could they not see you tomorrow? I really get annoyed with our surgery because we can never get appointments when needed!

tried that today kiminutter! They just said I would have to postpone and come to drop- in. sod it! I had been feeling much better too and had had no other side effects. Did you have any other side effects from the change of medication?

No other side effects. The GP that prescribed the citalopram was not my usual GP (couldn't get an appointment!) and obviously hadn't read my notes. When I went back I managed to see my GP and she remembered that I had problems with various ADs when I had PND the first time, until I tried fluoxetine which had worked fine. It really isn't nice having to put up with the various side effects before finding the one that works best for you, but once the right ones kick in it is such a relief!

well thanks for your advice anyway.
