Worried dps depression will trigger mine

Hiya

My dp is showing early signs of depression, he has acknowledged this and had an apt with the doc today. He knows what has triggered it and is seeking to make changes so that the depression doesn't set in.

He's never been depressed before, but I have(not for about 4 years now, since I left my ex), and I have lived with someone who has (my ex!). And so I am scared. Scared I won't be able to support him, that I will get depressed again myself.

Does anyone have any tips on how to cope? I have been awake all night, ruminating. I'm going to be tired with the kids all day tomorrow!!!

Didn't want I read and run

No advice but I couldve written this myself

I feel I've just over come the worst of my PND and my parter has just admitted he feels the need to see a doc regarding his mental health

Scared I'm gonna slip back with him

Hope you both feel better soon Thanks

Oh god, sorry to hear you're in a similar situation. It's so hard isn't it? We have to protect our own mental health, it's so important. But then how do we support our partners?

I take comfort in the fact he is so willing to see a doctor and is trying head on to tackle it proactively. Your dp sounds the same. At least they aren't trying to Bury their heads in the sand. Flowers

I wish u was posting with advice but I'm just another in the same boat! DP has severe anxiety and has just restarted ADs. I'm 22weeks pregnant and trying to come off venlafaxine which I have been on for 4 years! The combination is not good. Especially since DP has been signed off so we're spending most of our time together.

Gosh, lots of us in the same boat. Sorry, Somebody Flowers I hope it gets better for you soon.

DP visited the doc and was prescribed citalopram. We arent sure whether he is going to take them or not. Does anyone have any experience of this drug?

Incidentally he is feeling better after offloading to me, his family and his doc. He seems positive about the future, which makes me hopeful he isnt severely depressed and can come through it. He is determined not to fall any deeper into the black hole

Thank you. Citalopram worked really well for me at one point, it definitely had the fewest side effects of any AD I have ever used. I think it used to be the front line AD before sertraline became popular.
