Also if you see a psych, Are the meds Prescribed charged at private prescription prices?

Did you feel you were listened to, and it wasn’t just about
Here, try this for a month and come back and see me (more money)

Yes I've had recent experience that was positive. I felt they really listened to me and made a considered diagnosis rather than just saying oh your depressed talk this!
You have to pay for a private prescription but I found that it was actually cheaper than a regular prescription.
Although I'm still coming to terms with my diagnosis I think going for a private assessment was the best thing I could have done. Or the only thing I could have done as the go had said that she wouldn't make a referral for me Hmm

Thank u I was taking more as a inpatient but would consider a private consultation

I know someone who went there as an in patient and said that it made a massive difference to them. And that their actual issues were treated. Sorry, I don't know about the costs.

Haribogirl · 19/05/2018 09:27

Are you in the uk? Jelly
What was the prescription cost? As it only £8.60 nhs
And do you have to get private prescription every time?
I’m 60 and get nhs free prescriptions

Way on med at beginning, did you find you could get in touch easily if you were having SE issues?
Ie. Phone, email
And got a quick response
I’m in Manchester

Sorry that was meant for just

But any input would be greatly listened to

Inpatient costs are £6800 a week!

I would do it in a heartbeat for DH but I am anxious to know if it would be better treatment. We'd have to remortgage!

I'm a mental health social worker and when there are no beds available in our nhs wards, we have to commission beds at the priory for patients.

Apart from the grounds and food being nicer, and the rooms having an ensuite, there is no difference in patient care from what I have seen.

lovemyboys25 · 19/05/2018 11:15

Thanks Sparkles, that's what I've heard.
The only thing they have that nhs don't have is group therapy otherwise I saw no difference although they also prescribe meds less commonly used such as lithium

Try going seeing psych first privately?
I’ve been where your coming from
My priory in Cheadle Manchester most of patients in there are nhs my dp niece works there so told us.

It’s heartbreaking when we need help but can’t get it
only through money
And that’s trial and error with anything
I paid £80 session for hypnotherapy/psych therapist 3 sessions and didn’t see any difference.
I also asked about therapy at priory
Very expensive

I've been an inpatient on an NHS ward and an NHS patient on a Priory ward when I had been sectioned and there were no NHS hospital beds available. The food was significantly better in the Priory, as @Sparkles mentioned, but the NHS ward was all single, ensuite rooms whereas the private ward was shared bathrooms and also quite run down.

My experience was that patients on the NHS ward were more acutely unwell - I assume because of a lack of beds you really have to be in dire straits to get an NHS bed. I found there to be very little that was therapeutic about either ward to be honest - really they just appeared to be 'safe' holding pens - but I found the staff in the private ward were completely awful, whereas despite being run ragged the NHS ward staff were incredible and caring, and I felt far safer there than I did in the Priory.

Obviously this is just my experience and I think the short answer is I expect it's more to do with the particular hospital than whether it is private or not.

Hope this is helpful in some way and wishing you and your DH all the best.
