I have a history of depression, I'm on fluoxetine. I have horrible anxiety recently and I'm hoping to go to the drs tomorrow. Just after any advice re what to say. I want some short term medication to help with anxiety and then I suppose different antidepressants? Or not I don't know. I just really feel like I need something in the short term so hoping they'll prescribe something that works ☹️

Can't help with the drs but have you heard of Myo-Inositol (Vitamin B8) and its been mentioned on MN before it apparently can help alleviate anxiety. Its worth a try. Good luck.

Hey not very familiar with depression or anxiety but just some advice I would suggest just being as open as you can with your GP about your recent anxiety (duration, symptoms, triggers etc) sometimes just talking through a problem really helps and by giving detailed information they will be best informed about your situ. Best of luck and wishing you well xx

That's fantastic! lets know how it goes and how you get on with the Myo-Inositol.Smile I think for anxiety you need a high dose of about 12-18g they recommend.

I think they can sometimes prescribe a low dose of diazepam but it's not always thought of as a good idea as they are very addictive and don't solve it just numb symptoms. They can also cause drowsiness especially if mixed with other medication. So it's up to the doctor to discuss with you.
Sometimes other antidepressants can help more such as mirtazepine so they may discuss a switch.
They may offer advice on self help and safety and ask if you have had any suicidal thoughts.
They may offer a referral to the primary care mental health team for an assessment and possible counselling / CBT etc.
Hope it goes well.

Thanks everyone. It was actually diazepam I was hoping for! I realise it's not ideal but I was just thinking of immediate relief. Anyway the dr was really nice and has switched my fluoxetine to duloxetine so we'll see how that goes
