Mood swings - giving up sugar

I've suffered with moods swings and sleep problems with what seems like forever. Very low to full on anxiety and broken sleep every night. Over the years I've tried pretty much everything apart from completely quiting sugar. Today will be my first day - anybody fancy joining me?
It means no obvious sugar laden foods ( chocolate, cake, etc) no fruit juice/fruit or anything with added sugar for 8 weeks.
Would be great if someone else would try it with me.

I would like to but not until Thursday - cause I'm staying with friends! My mum cut all food with added sugar or sweetners in but still eats fruit. It has changed her life. She has stuck to it for two years; is regularly mistaken for my dad's daughter and not his wife; has dropped 6 dress sizes; has maintained a constant weight; and is more active that before she had us kids.

I am also quite an anxious person and have broken sleep. Could sugar be to blame?

Ok - join me on Thursday - would be good not to do it alone.
This morning I've had poached eggs with mushrooms fried in butter with an avacado.
Had a waitrose latte at 11 am and so haven't felt hungry. About to have sardines on toast.
A lot of evidence now is linking problems with mental health is actually a problem in the gut. Eliminating sugar helps balance the good bacteria in you gut which then helps the mind. I don't understand the science behind it but if it works that's good enough for me. Keep me posted how you get on

I broke last night - left over chocolate from Easter in the fridge. Now I'm paying for it as can't sleep. Tomorrow I'll start again!

I’ve eaten a biscuit! I’ll starr tomorrow tho, I’ve tried lots of times and failed it’s so much harder than it sounds! I swear ssris make me crave sugar

I have been trying to do this, it is really hard, we have had Easter and lots of family birthdays and celebrations seem to revolve around sugar, it makes me feel really antisocial if I don't join in. There's also something in me that almost sleepwalks trance-like into eating, I should have better self control.

That said, I have been managing it on and off since new year and I have lost 2 stone, I have another 2 or more to go but if I keep starting again when I fail hopefully I will get there in the end.

I do find my mental health is better when I am not eating sugar but I am not sure which direction the cause and effect is going - am I resisting sugar because I am in a better place mentally or am I in a better place mentally because I am resisting sugar - or maybe it is cyclic.

Can't believe I broke again already. My 12 year old has half an easter egg still left in the fridge ( was a full one until I broke). I told him off yesterday for nor eating it straight away like any normal kid would do. "You need to have more self- control mum!" was his reply. This is so bloody hard!!
