Helping someone with severe anxiety

My father lives on his own. He’s 77. For years he has suffered with anxiety and I think he’s suffering from depression too although he won’t admit it. He does recognise that he is unwell mentally. He said yesterday his whole body was shaking and he was a bag of nerves. He says he wants to be alone. He doesn’t want to see people. He’s happier being alone. He even struggles to see me, I can’t just turn up at his flat. He usually needs a couple of days notice and when I do visit. 2 hours is enough for him. Neighbours have tried to help but he has polite said he want to be alone. He’s been like this for a very long time but as he gets older he gets worse. He won’t go to the doctor, he won’t accept counselling, he just wants to be left alone. What can I do to help other than talking and listening to him over the phone.

Sorry you’ve not had any replies. Would he talk to a professional over the phone?
