Anyone with noise phobias or anxiety caused by noise.

I live in a cul de sac and there's lots of noise caused by kids screaming whilst playing, people working on cars etc

They're not doing anything illegal or that would constitute a nuisance, but I find it increases my anxiety massively.

Does anyone have any tips for dealing with it or accepting it? Does anyone suffer from anything similar?

Moving is not an option and I already use ear plugs.

Yeah I've got noise anxiety. It can be really awful so I feel you. No advice but just wanted to say your not alone.

Yeah, I'm autistic and struggle badly with noise. My mother does too (also autistic, my sister and I suspect). No suggestions I'm afraid, I just absent myself from offensive noise whenever possible. Maybe give yourself a break -- get away from the noise whenever possible rather than forcing yourself to endure it. When I realised I was autistic it gave me a massive break in terms of letting myself have time away from the things that have always caused me anxiety.

I do, associated to a phone phobia. I like my ear plugs.

My ear plugs are my friend!

It feels really silly as my son never notices the noice and is completely unphased by it all, whereas I'm pacing up and down not being able to relax!

I've always had it, but seems worse as I'm getting older.

I put my washing machine on, the white noise drowns other noise out. Otherwise I'll turn up the TV. I find if I'm the one choosing to make the noise then I don't feel so bad

Watching with interest, I'm worried my 10 year old dd is suffering from something like this, She will regularly put headphones in even if they are not plugged in to anything so its quiet, will mute the tv and put subtitles on when shes watching it alone and even the slightest noise and night and she will wake up and not be able to go to sleep.
We have had her hearing checked many times, have you done that OP? but theres not really anything else we have been advised to do.

Yes!

Very much so. I work night shifts because it's quieter.

I don't mind having television or music on if it's being watched/listened to but would never have it as 'background noise'.

I used to work with a man who'd have the television on loudly AND play music loudly on his phone and I'd often end up crying in the toilet because the noise was just too much. I eventually downloaded an app for the television so I could keep muting it when I could see he clearly wasn't watching it but was very stressful.

I avoid the in-laws because the television is on constantly too.

Too many people also stresses me out. I think I thrive in quiet.

Aw the washing machine or white noise is a massive anxiety too pythoness

Air vents are the worst.

the queen of wands my sisters both have noisy housholds. Music or tele up loud. I have to leave! It's too much.

I think there are two types. The ticking of a watch or white noise and then sensory overdrive of loud shouting or tele ect. I hate both!!

Once you have it you realise how quiet is so hard to come by. Driving to a field for quiet and you get birds or distant traffic! Silence is precious.
