Please talk to me about Sertraline

Started on 50mg just over 2 weeks ago. I know there are initial side effects such as anxiety, nausea etc.

The nausea bit has passed now but I'm getting moments of anxiety that are quite hard to cope with.....but am also generally calmer.

Please can people share their experiences of Sertraline with me and, if they experienced similar symptoms, how long it lasted for.

Thank you.

I've had experience of two tricyclic antidepressants now, and so far have preferred Sertraline. (everyone is different though). I'm on the same dosage as you and can't say i've had the adverse side effects you describe. It has made me drowsy though, so will often find myself falling asleep in the evenings. I was told with these type of drugs it can take up to six weeks for everything to settle down, so maybe give it some more time?

Thank you. I'm definiteky going to give it more time.

It just helps to know there's light at the end of the tunnel so to speak.

Hi OP I've been on and off sertraline for a few years now.

I was put back on it on Tuesday. These side effects will go. I've been battling the extreme anxiety for the last 2 days, saw something out of the corner of my eye and nearly jumped through the ceiling, heart was beating rapidly and couldn't stop shaking. It was my hair, I'd seen a strand of my hair out of the corner of my eye and I was full on panicking.

It will pass. I know because this isn't my first time taking it. In a couple of weeks I will start feeling much better, I know that to get to that point my body needs to get used to this medication.

I've spent all morning shaking. It will pass.

You just have to let your body adjust. It will get better.

When are you next seeing your GP? Sertraline can take up to 6 weeks I think to fully work.

I take the same dosage as you and after 2 weeks the anxiety had subsided significantly. After about 6 weeks I felt the best I'd felt in a long time, I also had CBT so that may have contributed. Stick at it and it will pass Thanks

Thank you.

Seeing my GP to potentially go up to 100mg after 4 weeks are up.

Knowing that it will get better is helping. Side effects are a bit shit, but apart from those, I'm feeling a little better

Hi! I am on Sertraline too, have been on and off since 2013. I am on 100 at the moment, I use it for anxiety, palpitations and the occasional panic attack.
The side effects for me have been mainly nausea (still get it) and a light head, together with constant yawning and I mean constant. I have left them abruptly in a few occasions because I read that if you take them for more than 6 months they make you put on weight... but always go back as I can't sleep without them and I'm a lot less... shouty 😁 .

I tried Sertraline and had to come off after only 4 days as I couldn't wee. Luckily it wore off quickly and I'm now taking Citalopram which I seem to tolerate better.

What dosages are people on please?

I'm currently on 50mg but hoping to go up next week to 100mg.
