Not on any meds for mental health but so so tired all the time!

In the last 5 years I’ve tried Citalopram, Fluoxetine, Sertraline.

Some helped at the time but in the last 1/2 years I decided I just preferred to be not be on anything.
I do have my down days where I’ll cancel on friend to meet up or I’ll postpone a work commitment where I can and stay in working from home. Or the odd weekend I’ll stay in and lounge about.
So I feel my mental health is managed. I’m not all day everyday in bed like I was in my worst days of past depression. And for now not being on meds is okay. I feel ‘content’ majority of th time. But I am so tired recently. And I really shouldn’t be?!

They say Vitamin D and getting outside often in the daytime helps. I do this.

They say sleeping well helps. I do this.

I’ve tried ginsing after a friend suggested. No difference.

Not really a coffee drinker. I’ve tried it. No big difference.

Had thyroid and bloods checked last year. Doctor said looks ok.

Any suggestions ?

Hi, have you actually had your vitamin D level checked? I was on a calcium and vitamin D supplement and so assumed mine would be fine but when the Dr did a blood test because I was so tired all the time it came back very deficient. I needed to go on prescription strength vitamin D for a while and then on a much higher dose supplement. Also your body can't synthesize vitamin D from sunlight in the UK between October and March as we don't get the right wavelength of light.

It's worth asking for a blood test anyway if you are tired all the time as there could be s physical cause.

Worth getitng your B12 levels checked as well.

I feel like this too a lot of the time. Taking vit D and B complex does make some difference for me. Was your iron ok when they checked? And what was your vit D level? Nhs say 50 or over is fine, but optimal is more like 100-120+

You can get 1000ug vit D from asda but I did find it made my skin bad (but I'm very sensitive to everything).

How's your digestion? Undiagnosed coeliacs can make you tired.

@NoLongerAnxiousCarer
I’ll get it checked.
Do you feel much better now since taking that?
I just feel I don’t have the same energy I had in my 20s. And I’m only 32!

Yes it made an amazing difference, I started to feel better after a couple of weeks on the prescription dose. Boots also do the 1000IU vitamin D tablets too, which was what my GP recommended after they hadctreated the deficiency as a maintenance level.

Another friend of mine felt similar and it turned out to be her thyroid was interactive. There can be lots of physical causes of extreme tiredness.

At this time of the year Vitamin D deficiency can be a real problem if you've not been out in the sun for months. I'd just start taking a supplement and see if it helps. It can certainly make you feel very tired and listless if you're deficient.

I’ll get these all checked again with the doctors I think.
Good tips, thanks all
