Anyone else have Complex PTSD

So this week I've been diagnosed with Complex PTSD, due to the effects of my emotionally abusive narcissistic mother and her 'flying monkeys'. Just wondering if anyone else has this. Although I'm on meds I'd love to speak to others who suffer with the condition Flowers

I’ve got diagnosed PTSD but fit all the markers for CPTSD after years of abuse.

I feel for you Flowers, it's awful. I'm 38 and have no friends because of this. We relocated to a new county seven years ago which didn't help I guess but I just feel like I'm in a glass box, I can see people but I just can't seem to 'connect' with them. Does this sound familiar with you?

That sounds familiar. I go to work, see people etc but I’m always detached from whats happening.
It’s like I’m not really engaged in my own life sometimes.
Feel free to pm me if you want to chat.

Thank you Smile and I can completely relate to that too

I have complex-PTSD. I am (finally) being treated for it (same treatment as for borderline personality disorder, difference is is that the trauma for BPD generally would have happened well before the age of 11/12).

MummyBtothree - you can get better from this, I am well on the road to recovery. The treatment is called Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.

Some NHS hospitals offer it, but there are long waiting lists. But there is a private firm called Mind Reframed who offer this privately. It's expensive (approx £180 pw for 32 weeks) but you get;

  1. Skills training (distress tolerance, interpersonal relationships and many more) - 2 hr weekly session with a DBT-qualified professional
  2. 1-2-1 counselling with a DBT-qualified professional
  3. "Telephone Skills" helpline until 9pm 7 days a week. They help put the skills in practice when having a crisis.

To be DBT qualified you have to have worked in a hospital-based team.. Don't be fooled by psychologists who are working on their own when they say that they are DBT-trained - they may have had a 3 day training course which is not enough. By the nature of the therapy ("dialectical") there needs to be a team of people supporting you.

I can't ever remember feeling happiness, but I for the first time in my life I am beginning to feel.. there is hope xx

(PS I don't work for MindReframed in case you're wondering. I just wish I had known of this team 12 years ago before my daughter was born so I could have been a better Mum right from the start).
