Ache, I'm sitting at work and my arms, fingers, elbows, legs and hips are aching. Is it normal to ache when you are depressed. I've been aching for over a month now but it's really bad tonight.

hmmmmmm not impossible for depression to manifest through physical symptoms, but I would still get it checked out at the docs. If it hadn't been going on for a month I'ld have said maybe it's the start of flu.

mrsharrypotter · 06/05/2007 17:36

I got it checked on Thursday. My Dr thinks it's 'normal' depression aches. I'm really tired too and he just thinks it's normal. Thanks for replying. I felt a bit invisable last week, and i finished work at 10 so just missed you!

could it be someting like the fact that you are tense and holding so much tension in your whole body that it aches?
(just a thought - i had pnd and i know the tiredness and anxiety that it can cause)

mrsharrypotter · 06/05/2007 17:40

I hadn't thought of that. I am pretty anxious all of the time, must try and relax more. Last week was a bad night at work so I was probably very tense in my arms too. Good call.

are you on ADs mrsHP? if so, do you feel like they are helping your anxiety?

Nbg · 06/05/2007 17:42

I suffer with anxiety and when its bad I sit very tightly and then I ache really badly.
I dont realise I'm doing it at the time but the next day I do!

I should say that what it is.

My CBT lady told me to make sure that I always sit back in a chair, relax my shoulders and breath deeply.

mrsharrypotter · 06/05/2007 17:57

Yes I am but only for 2 weeks, I'm not getting butterflies as much but I'm still anxious. I know it's early days though.

it is v early days, i only asked because if you were on ADs for a good while and still feeling anxious, then thery may not have been the right ones for you. i really hope that you feel better soon.
it's not really measurable, but one day soon, you will wake up and realise that your mind is not racing away hunting for things to fret about. that was the beginning of feeling better for me.
xx

Has your GP done any anxiety or depression inventories with you (where you answer questions on a scale of 0-3)? The reason I ask is some GP's misdiagnose anxiety as depression and depending on the person this can make things worse. Some AD's can really help depression but make anxiety worse, because they're like two ends of a seesaw. Would go back to your GP and say you think you may have anxiety problems.

DON'T be tempted to self-diagnose but it might help before you speak to your GP to look here and get a rough idea of whether anxiety is a problem for you.

I did a test type things with him that I had to give 0-3 for and he got a score at the end. I had a few weeks of appointments before he diagnosed me aswell. I trust him and I have a lot of depression symptoms alongside the anxiety. Thankyou for letting me know about the alternatives though.

No prbs, glad you trust him. May just be taking time for the AD's to kick in.

tubismybub · 08/05/2007 08:55

All of my pnd symptoms were physical so much so that I terrified myself into thinking I had some awfull illness and I it took months for the Dr to persuade me that it was depression and to try AD's. All the aches were through depression because once the ad's started to work they all went away.
