Citalopram and appetite?

DD started 10mg a day a week ago (anxiety, depressed, autistic!) supposed to increase to 20mg next week. Can’t say there’s any change in the anxiety or mood yet but she is completely stopped eating. She’s nibbling on the occasional dry cream cracker, Yesterday she had a bite out of a roll and so far today nothing. She’s lost a fair amount of weight and her jeans are looking loose.

Is this normal? Will her appetite come back? She’s quite little anyway and cant really afford to loose loads.

I'm on the same medication, but 20mg a day, two weeks in. Can't say I've noticed a drop in appetite, but I'm a greedy sod.
But I did notice yesterday for the first time a slight difference in mood, so maybe the tablets aren't affecting her mood but her mood affecting her appetite? Obviously I'm no expert, but just my experience. Hope she picks up soon

It made feel a bit sick when I started taking it - like, not quite nauseous but on the verge of it. I suppose that could put her off eating. It didn’t change my appetite though.

I am on a different AD but I completely lost my appetite. When I mentioned this to my doctor she said this was a side effect of ADs although not everyone experiences it. Had to force myself to eat as I could easily go days. It does improve through.

Opposite for me - I put on so much weight. But yes changes in appetite are noted they can go either way.

I was taken off citalopram as I lost my appetite completely. Didn’t feel hungry. Didn’t want food and lost a lot of weight. So yes it can have that effect.

It can also make depression and anxiety worse though which could also be affecting her appetite. Maybe it would be worth talking to her about how she’s feeling?

They say the usually take at least 2 weeks to kick in mood wise. But defo talk to her doctor re the appetite. That's not good for her.
