I was on it for 2 months - it was hideous.
I put on 2st in that time from them!

I stupidly came off in one go. My legs hurt SO much for at least 4 months afterwards!
Whenever I knelt down, it really hurt.

I would definitely suggest weaning off!

kerstina · 21/12/2017 13:33

Did you taper off slowly and down to what ? Also did you switch to another drug ? Thanks for your help

Hi, I was on 45mg for about six months and I came off cold turkey without really any side effects.

Maudlinmaud · 21/12/2017 13:42

For me coming off was a nightmare. My gp just told me to stop and start taking amitriptyline instead. I was like something out of trainspotting for a good week. Full blown anxiety, couldn't eat, couldn't sleep.
Mirt was great in lots of ways as it helped me sleep but the weight gain got me down.
I think if someone had told me it was normal to feel rough coming off it, I would have known what to expect.

kerstina · 21/12/2017 13:43

Good to hear that . I know I need to take something as was waking up with panic attacks and couldn't sleep but I am worrying about getting addicted to this . It's not really helping with sleep like it did st start it has calmed some nerves .

Ami is supposed to help with sleep too, but didn't for me. My gp taked to me about cipralex which is supposed to help with anxiety buy thankfully I haven't needed it.
Ask them to prescribe something else but research what's offered.

What dose are you on currently? I was on it for a while, and basically you HAVE to taper off otherwise it will cause stomach upsets for a start off. I cut down from 30mg, down to 15mg, and then down to 7.5mg. I dropped the dosage each week, but it's not always that easy to deal with.

kerstina · 22/12/2017 07:11

I am only on 15 as I refused to go up as felt it was very powerful . I know I need to take something else poss sertraline . Tried that for one week but wasn't sleeping st all or hardly eating due to acute anxiety through what I have been through . Drs lost patience with me as I know I was worrying myself sick but at the moment I am having one every other night . The mitrazapine has deft helped me lost some of the nervous prob and thinking that I would never ever sleep again but I feel like a zombie on it and it's made all my gums bleed . I have been off seroxat ( which I was on for a long time ) for one year . Reluctant to go back on that .

@kerstina I would be inclined to break them in half and take one half each day rather than taking one whole one every other day.

Have you actually got a sertraline prescription now?

laudanum · 22/12/2017 07:30

A decent doctor should have given you something to take that's new. If you haven't been given one, demand something immediately. It will help balance out the mirtazapine withdrawal.

kerstina · 22/12/2017 08:22

I have some sertraline tablets . My dr warned me about chopping and changing but I have been in such a state feeling awful and so anxious every time I have tried to get help . Not knowing what's best . So many doors closed in my face . I also have prescription for seroxat .

OP posts:
laudanum · 22/12/2017 09:01

I wouldn't touch the seroxat, but it seems like you need the sertraline. What's the dosage?

kerstina · 22/12/2017 09:32

Yeah it was hell getting off seroxat but I just felt so desperate this time literally shaking and agitated like a drug addict . I have just taken 25 mg of sertraline say a prayer for me please I am such a baby at the moment scared of everything . I just want to stay out of a and e

Give yourself some time. Halve the mirtazapine instead of taking it every other day. You can take them both together. It'll get better honestly. ♥️

kerstina · 22/12/2017 09:48

Thank you so much . What the drs don't realise is you really can't help it and if they start getting impatient with you it makes you even worse .

Ugh it's s nightmare to come off, I went cold turkey but I shouldn't, I was dizzy, spaced out, sick, drowsy, just horrible.

laudanum · 22/12/2017 17:09

A doctor should bloody well know how hard it is to deal with coming off any kind of medication like that. Mirtazapine is one of the harder ones to come off as well. Let us know how you're doing though.

kerstina · 22/12/2017 21:21

It's made all my gums bleed . Really worrying now just want to stop cold turkey but was already anxious before took it is an understatement .

laudanum · 22/12/2017 21:42

Does your mouth feel dry whilst your gums are bleeding?

kerstina · 22/12/2017 22:09

No it's when I brush them but they don't usually I am good with my oral hygiene
