Should I give my therapist a Christmas card?

To be specific, one with a psychodynamic orientation. I've been seeing her weekly for just under a year and she's helped me a lot. I really would like to give her a card (she's a Christian) but I'm not sure if this is really the done thing. She might see it as a boundary issue.

Have you done this? Would you?

Depends how hardcore psychodynamic she is, but I’d say only do it if you’re prepared for the whole subsequent session to centre around an in-depth conversation about what giving her a card means to you. Xmas Wink

Of course you can. YOU can do anything, it's her that would want to talk to her supervisor about it if she wanted to give you one.

I'm an integrative therapist so I wouldn't necessarily question it.

I gave a very much appreciated counsellor one once, and I used to give my old GP one every year (had quite intensive care and support from her for years). They always said thanks and seemed surprised but happy and never tried to talk about it or anything. Obviously they can't return the gesture but I'm sure you know that.

As a therapist (although not psychodynamic based) i have been very grateful for xmas cards. Smile

It's fine. I gave my counsellor a small present this year. She loved it.

She also gave me a small gift - in the spirit of therapy work though
