Employable Me - this tv programme has given me hope

Just watched this on BBC 2 now. It has really boosted my confidence seeing people with conditions that supposedly are setting them back with work and employability etc.

Conditions like stroke, Tourette’s, being visually impaired and disabled etc. I have a drug induced involuntary movement disorder which means I have tic-type facial and bodily movements including grimacing, lip smacking etc. I have been so inspired to see a guy with quite severe Tourette’s manage to get a job after years of being unemployed.

It has really given me hope to think that I will be given the same equal treatment when it comes to job hunting and employers being kind and not discriminating against my condition.

On the flip side, it makes me sad to think these people are still struggling to find work and being looked upon unfavourably in this day and age. One poor guy who had a stroke said he hadn’t been offered a job for 30 years. Shock I wish people would be more tolerant of others’ differences - it would make the world such a better place.

Yes, I know i’m beibg idealist and naive but one can dream...

I watched this too. Ah, Ryan was such a lovely lad! I was so happy he managed to get a job with his fish and turtles in the end. I think people don't understand TS and think it's just random swearing but my god, seeing him have a full on tic attack was horrible. Poor lad, I actually thought he was having a seizure :( I really hope he keeps his job and that working with the animals makes him happy.

Andy was lovely too, I couldn't believe he wasn't able to get a job! He has such an amazing work background!

Both lovely people and can't wait for next week's episode.

Have to say that the blind lady asking the lady with one arm 'how on earth do you cope with only one arm?' made me laugh! I guess we manage our own disabilities but see others disabilities as something too difficult to overcome.
