Hi my gp prescribed me 10mg of citalopram for anxietyand I have been taking them for 2 weeks but they don’t seem to be working... I can’t sleep and my anxiety is really bad... I am literally just sitting here staring into space feeling that I can’t take this feeling anymore... is it not in my system yet or shall I go back to go to ask for stronger meds?

They won’t be in your system yet and it’s normal for GPs to start you on this dosage and then slowly increases your dosage.

Go back, I think that’s quite a low dose. But I also know they take a while to kick in. I’m no expert though, my ex used to take them.

I think when I started on citalopram I was on 10 mg, it's a common starter dose and then can be increased as needed, I think 20 mg is a common dose for anxiety and 40 mg max for depression.

These things can take up to a month to really start working, so although I know it's easy to worry about this not having an effect yet, it's possible that after only two weeks it hasn't had its full effect on you yet. In a fortnight you will hopefully see more of an impact.

That said, if you find you're feeling really bad or a lot worse, it's worth going back to see your doctor as they can advise as to whether you need to give it a bit longer or up the dose etc. I remember it was really tough to start on, so sending best wishes for you

They can take a few weeks to kick in, so you're unlikely to notice much improvement after two weeks. 10mg is low but common as a starter dose. Hope you feel on a more even keel soon Flowers
