In floods of tears

A friend I've had a few years has just dumped me. She sent me a long text saying that I was self centred. I'm absolutely devastated. I have depression and have recently been through a rough time. I became a bit quiet and introverted and so she said I wasn't interested enough in her. She also said that other people thought the same and that's why they didn't want to talk to me. I am so hurt.

X posts again.

That sounds really hard op. People are fragile in many ways and often let one another down I think, for a variety of reasons. It's tough going.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 30/10/2017 23:52

Yes I guess so. It's just I've been let down so many times.

I agree, I think it would have been only fair to give you a chance to explain.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 30/10/2017 23:54

I don't really know what to do now. She obviously meant a lot to me

Perhaps you could write to her and tell her how you are feeling?

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 30/10/2017 23:58

The thing is, my feelings aren't her responsibility and she's made it abundantly clear that she doesn't care how I'm feeling. I'm sure she has her own things to deal with and the friendship has become a drain for her.

Perhaps you could mull this over for a few days and make a decision about how to proceed when the immediate hurt has lessened a bit? Do you have access to outside support too? (Counselling/ go or some such?)

Handygarrottes · 31/10/2017 00:04

Gp not go!

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 31/10/2017 00:05

The friendship is absolutely over. I trusted her enough to confide in her about self harm and she does this

She's hurt that you forgot her birthday. You're hurt that she doesn't understand why you forgot. I don't think either of you are in the wrong here.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 31/10/2017 00:10

We weren't friends who really celebrated birthdays or saw each other all the time. She hadn't mentioned it was her birthday. I knew it was September sometime bit didn't know the exact date.

Handygarrottes · 31/10/2017 00:11

Fair enough op. I'm sorry you feel so betrayed.

I'm sorry but I am going to have to be mean now too and say goodnight as I have an early hospital appt tomorrow. I genuinely hope things get better for you though. I also hope you are able to seek rl support. Take care.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 31/10/2017 00:11

She works in a profession where she absolutely does understand depression.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 31/10/2017 00:11

Goodnight handy, I hope you have a good day tomorrow and the hospital appointment goes well.

Handygarrottes · 31/10/2017 00:15

Thank you Far! I hope you have a better day tomorrow too!

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 31/10/2017 01:06

Really can't sleep. I really wish she'd just let it be for a bit. My head is sore

Feel awful still.

Just bumping

Handygarrottes · 31/10/2017 08:28

Sorry you are still feeling so upset Far. I'm off to hospital appt so apologies for rushed post. I hope you have some RL support. Take care.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 31/10/2017 09:00

Thanks handy. One of my friends with depression said that this has happened to him. Sadly I think it's not uncommon.

Hi there OP,

We hope you don't mind, but when these threads are flagged up to us we usually add a link to our Mental Health resources - here. You can also go to the Samaritans' website here, or email them on [email protected].

Support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, but as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek RL help and support as well.

We also like to remind everyone that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 31/10/2017 11:36

Thank you. I don't need the Samaritans and as you can see, RL support hasn't got me anywhere! Feel a bit brighter now.

Is anyone around this evening?

OP posts:
Handygarrottes · 31/10/2017 22:42

I'm here Faron but only briefly as I need my bed soon!

I am glad to hear you are feeling a bit brighter about things. How did your day go?

MummySparkle · 31/10/2017 22:59

I’m here for a little bit
