Meds and breastfeeding?

I am feeding my 16 month old and taking sertraline which I'm fine with. But my mental health really feels like it's tanking and other meds keep being suggested including benzos. I've previously taken mood stabilisers and antipsychotics but I really don't want to do this in terms of feeding and caring for my child and my job! Any experiences or ideas? My anxiety and dissociation feel like they are taking over.

I took an antidepressant while breastfeeding - I was on fluoxetine for years, went cold turkey when found out was pregnant, struggled with anxiety through pregnancy, was ok ish when DS born but couple of months later it hit me hard and was really unwell. I think it was sertraline they put me on - I can't remember now but it was the one recommended for breastfeeding. At 16months how much longer are you going to bf for? I wouldn't let your MH dip - see your GP asap. Hope all goes well

Long time since I breastfeeding fed but is your baby reducing feeding?...your change in mood could be a reduction in hormones..

Please prioritise getting yourself on the right meds over breastfeeding. 16m is already an outstanding effort in breastfeeding. I don't have any experience of having a mh illness to offer, but I am the daughter of someone who does and for me, a well parent is something I would give anything for. Xx

Thank you so much for the responses and kind comments about the feeding - it's hard to imagine not doing it but she is feeding less and less.

I grew up with my mum having mh issues and not acknowledging it so it's the last thing I want to do to my daughter - can't stand Disney you're so right nothing will outweigh me being available to her.

Also really good though know it might be hormones. Will discuss in my next psych appt and this week has been better luckily.
