Saw psych for app today and he diagnosed BPD. I think it's a copout psycs use if they can't dump you in any other place. No offense to anyone but does anyone know if this is true? Or feels its true? Don't fit what the internet says about it so dunno. My mum came with me for support and also thinks it's horseshit. I know I'm not normal but could he be wrong? I asked this and be kept sayin shit like its normal to not agree and it's usual to feel its not what you have blah blah blah i don't want to think I'm somethin I'm not yknow
I'm confused

I'm pretty sure I have it if you go by the symptoms but I'm not sure I agree with sticking labels on people anyway. We are all individuals with individual needs. Don't think it helps just bunging you under a label

WhatInTheWorld76 · 19/09/2017 18:31

Ok - i don't do half of what's said -
I dont self harm
I dont try to commit suicide
I'm not get angry or fight with ppl.
I don't care about people leaving or staying ppl can do what the fuck they want i aint fussed.
I don't sleep around
I don't do anything risky - drink, drugs, trouble with the law
I'm not selfish or a bitch - im alright

I do change my hair and style a lot
I do change my mind bout what i want
I used to take drugs but not after my twins came
I used to roam around but not since my twins
I don't care who stays or goes long as i got my twins

I'm sure he's got it wrong.
Can you have EUPD if you don't do the stuff the internet says you do?

I think you have to tick only so many of the boxes .
What do you think is wrong with you?
You can always go for a second opinion

I have heard before that it's a lazy diagnosis and used when ppl won't fit in a certain box

WhatInTheWorld76 · 19/09/2017 19:04

That's the sticky wicket - i know I'm not normal but i don't know enough about medicine or the body to know what i am.

Ironically enough, the sort of therapeutic services that were ushered in over the last decade or so to provide for those with a PD diagnosis actually aren't that interested in the diagnosis when working with the clients. Its about the issues that people have, the diagnosis isn't important.

You can ask for a second opinion OP. Is that a route you'd like to go down?

hasitcometothis33 · 19/09/2017 19:08

Fuck being normal :)

eyeswideshit · 19/09/2017 19:39

It's definitely real. I was diagnosed a couple of years ago and fit all the symptoms.

From what you say you definitely don't fit all the criteria but you only need a few to be diagnosed with it.

Maybe write down all your symptoms then look at different personality disorders. See if one seems to fit better to you. A fair few PDs overlap

WhatInTheWorld76 · 19/09/2017 20:50

Yeah think I'll call tomorrow and speak to someone. Just wanted to b not if anyone disagreed with me really

Erm - what therapeutic services? It's harder than ever, if not impossible, to get indepth therapy to address actual issues now. Otherwise there's DBT which is massively about the label - it assumes you're behaving erratically, self-harming, etc, all the cliches. Am I missing something?

hasitcometothis33 · 20/09/2017 15:08

Well yes there is a poverty of provision. My point is that those who work with clients with a PD diagnosis don't focus on the diagnosis but the therapeutic issues the person struggles with. Which adds to the argument that a EUPD diagnosis isn't that helpful.

tehmina23 · 21/09/2017 13:48

In 2012 I got diagnosed with full blown EUPD, was sent for DBT treatment only the nurse at the clinic realised I was psychotic, sent me back to a psychiatrist who said I was very paranoid & put me on anti psychotics.

So I didn't get DBT. And my diagnosis is now Recurrent Depressive Disorder with Psychosis, and EUPD 'traits'. I'm still taking anti psychotics & anti depressants. I see a psychiatrist 3 monthly.

Of the EUPD traits I suppose I'm impulsive & can be emotionally unstable & suicidal at times.
Also if I don't hear from my friends in a week I think they don't like me & it can make me suicidal (which I never tell anyone).

If you really disagree with the diagnosis I suggest getting a second opinion if u can.

The problem with bpd and eupd is that there are around 9 boxes and you only have to tick 5 of them to get the diagnosis so there is a fair few combinations.

I have traits of eupd along with depression. I tick the following boxes
-not knowing who I am( I've spent the last 4 years birthing and raising babies)
-difficulty in making friends.
-very low self esteem

I'm in dbt but only because a very amazing crisis nurse put me forward for it. I'm now 5 months through dbt.
