7 year old DAD hearing voices

Hi. I'm looking for some advice please.

The other night my DD woke in a dream like state saying she was afraid and she didn't know what to do. I tried comforting her and talking to her but this made her more afraid. Like she wasn't seeing me/ I was someone else and she was afraid. Anyway I took her for a wee and lay with her and she fell into a deep sleep v quickly. I wondered if in fact she was awake at all. But in the morning she remembered what happened but didn't want to talk about it or what was making her afraid.

Next day after school she was in trouble (rude and secretly eating sweets) and then she suddenly said she hears nasty voices and that's what her dream was. She said it happens when she is on her own mainly. The voice mainly seems to say "I'm coming to get you" and other horrible things but she doesn't know what. I played it down and said let me know when it next happens.

Then we've had a lovely weekend and cuddles in bed; then I leave her to come downstairs and she immediately says the voices are back saying the same things. I'm not sure I believed her and got cross (there is always something to delay bedtime). DH lay with her for a bit he seemed convinced it was genuine. I spoke to her gently and said maybe we should speak to someone and she said yes please because she's scared and wants it to stop! I just don't know what to do or think. I will obviously try to get to the doctor's but does anyone have any advice or experience of this. Feeling worried.

No personal experience but I have heard of children hearing voices. Speak to the doctor ASAP, there is help. Couldn't read and run.

Lot's of people hear voices and live with them without it causuing problems but as her voices are distressing her definately see your GP. My DH suffers episodes of psychosis is which he hears voices that are unpleasant and distressing amoungst other things. Symptoms normally start in the teens, but I know of a few cases where they have started in primary age children. The good news is that getting the right support early significantly improves long term outcomes. My husbands under an early intervention in psychosis team and I know that they see children too as it's a specialist area.
