Recommendations for Noise Cancelling Headphones

I hope it is ok to ask this here.

I am very noise sensitive and would like to get some of these noise cancelling headphones.

I have looked on Amazon and all they seem to talk about is how good the music is. But I don't want music - I want peace Smile.

Can anyone point me in the direction of headphones which cut out outside noise really well? I am thinking particularly of travelling on trains etc and not having to hear people.

thank you

I bought my autistic son a pair of Sony ones For about £26, he often has them on (not connected to anything) and he can't hear me calling him for dinner if that helps??

I have skull candy lowriders and although they are not noise cancelling they block outside noise really well when the sound is on. Possibly not ideal for the train as they do leak a bit but not too bad.

Mine are by Bose, but I can't remember the serial number offhand. You can use them with or without the noise-cancelling function. They really weren't cheap though - about 250 euros.

Oh, and I now use mine when I fly, and the difference is incredible. I noticed the other day that about four other people on the plane had the same Bose equipment, so they do seem popular.

I bought my DD1 some Vanderfields ear defenders for £7.99 in June. Before she had them, she wouldn't come into church during the worship time because of the drums. She would instead insist on sitting on the stairs outside the hall. Now she has her ear defenders, she is happy to sit right behind the drummer, and chooses which songs she wears them for (songs with quiet drumming using brushes are manageable without the ear defenders).

They don't need to be expensive to do the job. Just look for the NRR rating. Whatever the NRR rating is, the noise reduction will be the (NRR-7)/2, in decibels. So if you were sitting on a train and two people are having a conversation at 60dB, and you have noise cancelling ear defenders/headphones with a NRR rating of 37, they would reduce the noise by (37-7)/2=15, taking it down to 45dB. Every dB is half the sound of the sound before, though, so a 15 dB reduction would be huge.

These are only £12.67 and get good reviews, with a NRR of 34-37.

Thank you everyone - I am going to look up all your recommendations now. Sadly they will have to be at the lower price end!

thank you for your help.
