Therapy not helping?

I've had anxiety pretty much my whole life, certain things in the last couple of years have increased my anxiety, pregnancy loss and emergency surgery for my newborn.

I'm currently seeing a therapist to help with my OCD, which is increased through my anxiety.

I've been to 3 sessions so far and I'm not finding it all that helpful. The therapist is lovely but doesn't say a lot and keeps asking me very general questions. Is this normal? I feel as if it's almost being dragged out and she's not helping me get to the route of the problem.
Maybe I'm jumping the gun a little but I've got a couple of books one recently called Dare which I'm finding more helpful and isn't costing me a fortune each week- which also increases stress levels!
Am I being impatient and should I stick this out? Thanks in advance

Hi,

I think 3 sessions is quite early to be seeing much change for most type of therapies, the exception to this in my experience in NLP ( neurolinguistic programming ) which I have found has always left me feeling significantly better after each session.

I have had several bouts of councelling with 3 very good councellors over the years and this is a much slower process of self realisation gently guided by the councellor. I have also found this very helpful, especislly when I have a lot on my plate and need to talk and get it all out.

I have also seen 2 different psychologists who had very different approaches. The first quizzed me in detail about everything I said which I found stressful, very difficult and quite distressing, he warned me that I would feel worse before I got better, but I just felt worse each time and wasn't getting better, so I went to see the NLP therapist instead who gave me instant relief. Just the idea of going back to that psychologist (who came highly reccommended) makes me feel sick I found it so traumatic. The second psychologist had a much gentler approach, he would listen and then gently ask a few questions and occasionally comment. At the time it wouldn't feel like he had done anything then over the next few days and weeks I would feel a shift in the way I was thinking.

Ultimately there are lots of different types of therapy, some that will suit you better than others and therapists of different qualities and experience. I think the most important thing is that the therapist is a good fit with you. I would try a few more sessions before makingva decision.
