Don't mix right? Feeling rough today after drinking (probably too much) red wine last night. Woke in the night with fast heart beat, a bit scary. has anyone else had this with alcohol? Hoping it passes soon. will be more careful in future.

I asked my GP when I was on prozac, he said alcohol wouldn't cause me any harm from the ADs but that because alcohol is a depressant combining them wasn't a great idea as they would work against each other. Some ADs can cause irregular heart beat though (DH had with citalopram) so worth checking with your GP.

Thanks, yes think it is the amitryptilline. I have told the GP about it in the past and we were unsure as also anxiety can make it eat fast. She did and ECG which was Ok though. Guess need to avoid in future, maybe one glass might be Ok if a small one. Could do with cutting down anyway, as it is a depressant and not great for MH at times.

I'm on 25 amitriptyline and 20 citalopram. the citalopram came first and I was OK drinking but made me forgetful. since starting amitriptyline I get horrendous hangovers if I get drunk. So I've cut right back. Trial and error but definitely not good mixing amitriptyline and a lot of booze

LovelyBath77 · 31/07/2017 19:27

Ah I see, yes it must be that. Well it really helps me with nerve pain so think I will need to cut back the booze then! probably for the best anyway. Thanks for the reply x

Same here. Pain relief is so major I have realised that's much more important than booze. Still have a few but nothing like before. I think part of my drinking was unconscious pain relief
Anyway give it a go, there's nothing to lose
