embarrassing panic attack

Just had a panic attack in the middle of my DC karate class. I feel fricking rediculous and so so stupid and embarassed. Managed to get out but about 6-8 people definitely looked at me in a "wtf" way and fk knows how many more too as the fat ridiculous crying huffing woman ran past Blush mortified.

OP, a panic attack is not embarrassing. Don't say that. Seek help is this occurs often.

I'm in the middle of doing CBT. For me they are embarrassing. I can't deal with people at the best of times so the staring and the looksurrounding are horrible.

Don't be embarrassed OP they were probably worried. loads of people have at least one panic attack in their lifetime, or at least have been with someone else whilst they are having one. Be kind to yourself Flowers

Thank you. I have discussed this with my councillor, it is only the second one I've had in public but it's the "everyone is looking at me" feeling that I struggle to control. I'm working on it.

I've been there (literally in karate centre) and it is awful in public. But you have to think, so what? You're not well, you can't help it. If you saw someone distressed you'd feel bad for them, not judge them.

How are you finding the cbt?

CBT is really helping. It strange cos I tried it before for depression and it didn't help, think it was the person though. I'm actively thinking of ways to control my anxiety rather than let it control me and that's a massive step for me!

BettyInc out of interest, how do you deal with panic attacks?

In particular how would you react if someone you know (who doesn't know about your anxiety issues) saw you having an attack?

With great difficulty. I've recently started a thread about them ruining my life so not the best person to ask. However, medication and CBT have really helped me and I feel more able to face things now.

Like exposure therapy. The more I avoid somewhere, the worse it becomes.

Take care x
