Travel anxiety

Am I the only one? Sad I have GAD and every other anxiety label going too (inc health anxiety, social, panic attacks etc etc) but again, less than 48 hrs before we're due to go away I panic, get stressed and consequently turn into a horrible cow. I've managed to avoid flying (intolerable) and we're going on the Eurostar but then I panic about panic and all the "what ifs":
What if we get stuck in the tunnel
What if I have a panic attack
What if I notice a health ailment onboard and can't get off
What if it's really busy when we get there
What if, what if, what if.

I'm exactly the same, travel anxiety is the worst. I had to take the Eurostar to a meeting yesterday in Brussels and was very worried about it. At least it wasn't flying though as I also find that awful.

Try and get there as early as possible so you're not worried about queueing. I find herbal teas calm me down a bit.

Good luck! Would also be interested to hear how other people cope with this.

I am the same, we go on holiday next week (flying) and I am stressing about having not enough clothes (very few), not fitting into the seat (I'm fat), being judged and not being fit enough to walk anywhere and enjoy the holiday plus it is to somewhere very hot (not my choice) so all in all I'm dreading it. I don't want to go at all.

I guess I just want coping mechanisms to get me through it.

Not sure if I'm articulating this well but if I think I can't breathe properly then my breathing gets tight, if I tell myself I'm hot and sweaty, it happens. So logic says just don't think that way, but it's impossible not to.

I tell myself that I am ok and it occasionally works.

I have anxiety and when it flares up I'm the same with thinking I might feel faint/hot/sick and then I do feel it.

I find my best coping mechanism is to plan everything (itinerary, list, whatever), and then avoid thinking about it at all, read a book, do a puzzle, daydream about being somewhere safe and familiar, whatever you can do to distract yourself.

I have terrible travel anxiety too. Have you considered medication?
